Krastorio adds range limits to ammunition itself, and if the config is set up for turrets to be able to exceed that range, they will end up firing shots that never arrive, and so can start wasting quite a bit of ammo.

I doubt there's anything that can be done to change turret targeting in any reasonable amount of effort, but I know I've seen some ammunition from some mods have range modifiers attached to them. I think many of the rockets and such from True Nukes do so? If that's a feature that could be applied to turrets, to boost their range on ammo, that could maybe be a cleaner way to deal with it.

I think Searchlight Assault has a workaround for ammo range limitations in Krastorio that seems to be just... adding a second variant of the ammo that is boosted to adequate range caps, which only shows up in turrets when they are boosted by a searchlight. Might be another option, but does feel like it might be getting out of the scope of the mod, I don't know. That'd likely cause some issues too since Searchlight seems to be only temporary boosts to turrets, so I'd imagine the ammo is converted on boost and reverted when it ends, but there's not really a duration to boosts in this mod like that.

Alternatively, it might just be the kind of solution that is to just have people not set up the turret range configs to let them have more range than their bullets could shoot.

hey!

thanks for reporting, there's a config to disable turret's range called: exp_for_buildings_max_range_for_turrets, if you set to 0 it'll never increase turret's range
