Water Processing Fork

Clean water is not free.

Water Processing Fork brings the original K2 Water Processing concept by ayashiemon to Factorio 2.0 and current Krastorio 2.

Instead of allowing offshore pumps to provide perfectly clean process water directly from lakes and oceans, natural water is treated as raw water and must first be processed before it can be used by your factory.

The goal is not to turn water into another overly complicated production chain. Water treatment should fit naturally into a Krastorio 2 factory while adding another small piece of industrial realism and giving water infrastructure a little more purpose.

What it adds

The mod introduces three tiers of water treatment, progressing alongside Krastorio 2 technology.

Raw water is processed using different filter materials and increasingly advanced treatment methods. Filters and treatment media need to be produced, used and regenerated or replaced, following a concept similar to Krastorio 2's air-purification systems.

The higher treatment stages make use of materials such as silicon, lithium and imersite and integrate with existing K2 production categories such as fluid filtration.

Factorio 2.0 Fork

This fork is a clean reimplementation of the original K2 Water Processing 0.1.0 for the Factorio 2.0 prototype system.

It has been updated for:

Factorio 2.0.77+
Krastorio 2 2.0.19+
optional Space Exploration 0.7.57+

The original gameplay idea and three-stage water-treatment concept have been retained, while obsolete Factorio 1.1 and older Krastorio 2 prototype structures have been rebuilt for the current API.

Space Exploration progression is also taken into account for the advanced imersite-based treatment stage.

The Japanese localisation from the original mod has been cleaned up and expanded, and German and Russian localisations have been added for the fork.

⚠ IMPORTANT – Existing saves

Be very careful when adding this mod to an existing factory.

Natural water tiles are changed so that offshore pumps supply raw water instead of normal clean water.

This means that an existing water supply system must not be assumed to continue working unchanged after installing the mod.

Every offshore pump, water intake and every factory system depending on those water networks should be reviewed.

This includes, for example:

steam and power production,
chemical plants,
refineries,
boilers,
cooling systems,
Krastorio 2 production chains,
Space Exploration production chains,
and any other machine consuming normal water.

Existing pipe networks may still contain clean water while newly supplied water is raw water. Depending on the layout, parts of an existing water network may therefore stop operating until a water-treatment plant is installed and the network is revised.

For a new game this is part of the intended progression.

For an existing game, plan the conversion of your water infrastructure before enabling the mod.

Compatibility

The mod is designed primarily for Krastorio 2 and integrates with its materials, filtration equipment and technology progression.

It is also designed to coexist with Space Exploration.

The water-treatment system deals with natural raw water. Industrial wastewater systems such as K2's dirty-water processing remain separate, allowing recovered process water to remain useful without forcing it through the natural-water treatment chain again.
