g Warp Button Shenanigans!

Greetings M Ferrari,

First post here at Factorio, been playing for a while now, played Warptorio vanilla and am now playing your expansion. Thanks for all the hard work.

After getting my ass kicked on my first few tries I have turned the biters down a bit and am immensely enjoying it. (Turned Warp Platform pollution off and Biters waves off, makes a huge difference). Still get attacked but you don't waste half the collected resources every map killing bugs. I also disabled random warps as this just wastes to much time and resource on a time intensive game. I did not realize that if you die you spawn back at the platform I assumed it was game over and would reload.

From memory I'm on about Warp 50, I am using the Warehousing mod (essential in Warptorio IMO), Vanilla Rocket Turrets and Adventure (Z), a big help when getting started as you can find lots of science packs and even a few turrets (laser ones too) among other things. Also running a train battle wagons mod from another game but probably won't need it in Warptorio.

Now for about the last 20 warps my warp button has decided to run away in a south easterly direction, however unlike the other missions the radar button doesn't give you the direction indicator, just the camera of it's location. This makes it almost impossible to find. I have spent entire planetary visits (up to 50 mins now) looking for the little bugger, seems to fly a very long way away. Even to other continents making it unrecoverable.

So my questions are:
1. Is it meant to run away every warp?
2. If I find does it stop it running away?
3. If 2 is true is it permanent or temporary?

At the moment I am just ignoring the thing as it is not worth the time investment to find it and it certainly wouldn't be every warp. I just researched tank tech so I might go for another look if you advise me it worth (ie it will stay put for a while).

Your advice is appreciated.

Hi Captain! Normally it does not goes very far. Answering:
1. If you do not recover the button (next warp you lose it again).
2. Once you recover it, the button is yours again. No jump on new warp (unless you are very bad lucky, and that event happens again... you know it, that ship has some problems...)
3. Every warp there is a chance of some chaotic event to happen. Losing you warp button is just one of them... So yes, it will happen again, but should not be that frequent
Are you playing alone ? I made these challenges thinking on a multiplayer game, with at least 3 people. Playing alone would be much harder.
BTW, the radar should indicate where it is. I will check this

Yeah playing alone, which is why I eased up a bit on the biters. Thanks for the info I will go find it next time I warp and don't have something more pressing to do, like escort that droid.

I can only guess at how far it's going but watching it leave on camera I would estimate between 50-100 chunks, I'll time it to landing next time but it's moving at very high speed for at least 30 seconds. In fact it's moving so fast some of the chunks don't even render on the camera window (just black chunks), at least on my system.

Well I finally found it. It was quite a long way away I took a screen shot showing the location but I don't know where it was saved. It measures about 2 radar areas away (diagonally) Thanks for help

I thought I should also add that the direction finder definitely did not work although I got the sonar ping, nor did the orange target appear like it does for the other missions, I only found it by accident after a long search and by trying to match the camera view with what I saw on screen, hope you can figure out what the issue is.

I will take a look at this. thanks for the info

Just an update.

The warp button has been lost and found 2 more times since my last report. The first time took me over an hour of searching as it was lost in a forest. The second wasn't to bad because it landed in a copper patch. In both cases they were a long long way away, at least 5 radar ranges and across water.

Not being able to find it easily presents a potentially game breaking issue. I now have enough Warp Reactor research done so that there is no auto warp in place anymore, to move planets you need the warp button. To generate new missions you need to jump periodically, but if you can't find the button you are stuck, which is why I spent an hour looking for the damned thing. If your stuck on a planet you can't advance the missions and game over. Maybe we need an alternative like being able to build a new button, make it expensive if you have to like 100 steel, 100 red chips and 50 blue chips but at least give the option. Maybe make it a mod option to turn it off too because frankly having to do a 50*50 chunk search every time is just painful and annoying at this time.

Love the mod BTW, but I may have come to the end but I will start another thread for that.

Weird... I dont remember it is that far. 50 chunks ? cant be. I am playing an expansion run with Coyote https://www.twitch.tv/videos/545340839 and the warp button rescue is the minor of our problems. Always the easiest task. But we are with 4 players... I would not play warptorio alone =)

It's entirely possible that a mod I am running is upsetting where it lands, if you look at the save file in the other thread I started about UPS you'll be able to figure out the mods I'm using. When I started I set the map starting area to 500%, which means the first biter bases are a fair ways off. When it landed in the copper patch it was well beyond the first rows of biter bases. Which leads me to another question, is the button indestructible? I ask because plenty of other objects in missions have spawned in the middle of biter bases and been destroyed by exploding spawners (the explosive ones) I had to abandon one mission after about 20 reloads because the artifact died every time.

I probably did make the biters a little too easy, but even with Mk3 Armor and 15 lasers it still takes a while to clear out some of the biter bases and on heavily infested worlds it is just an Ocean of red.

Thinking about it some more, it might have something to do with the turret range mod, that is if the button is treated like a projectile when it runs away.
