Upgrade Requires Previous Tier

by Kryzeth

Modifies several early-game recipes to require the previous tier when they otherwise didn't, such as chests, furnaces, mining drills, inserter, armors, and more. Additional compatibility with Gotlag's Electric Stone/Steel Furnace and Muluna's Steam Steel/Stone Furnace.

i [Not Implemented] alternate recipe settings

There is a mod Furnace Upgradable that have a setting to make the added recipe an alternate recipe instead of simply replacing/modifying

For me upgrading recipe is a way to consume things that are leftovers, not to force into making this new way

If you are requesting a setting to make the recipes optional, that isn't exactly the primary purpose of this mod; it is explicitly to force the player to use the older items as part of the new ones.

I'm not sure exactly why a player would want the option of having the original recipes in addition to the newer recipes (which are only marginally better in raw ingredient cost at best, while being much slower in crafting time at worst).

A lot of these items are already useful enough in their lower tier form (thus not necessary to consume the excess) and only exist to add some minor complexity to their recipes, like with the space age planetary buildings requiring nauvis counterparts (ex: furnace into foundry, assembler-3 into electro plant, or chem plant into biochamber) The items being used in the recipes are still useful on their own; they aren't being added to consume any excess.

These are not supposed to be useful alternative recipes; it is a completely different ethos. But thanks for the suggestion anyways; seems like this mod is simply not for you (not really sure who it's for tbh lol)

As a follow-up to the above, it looks like that mod author has two other mods in the same style (power pole and armor)

They might be willing to add settings for those mods, considering they already did so at the request of another user, for the furnace one; that would cover most of the entities that fit your criteria, I think
