Upgrade Requires Previous Tier

by Kryzeth

Modifies several early-game recipes to require the previous tier when they otherwise didn't, such as chests, furnaces, mining drills, inserter, armors, and more. Additional compatibility with Gotlag's Electric Stone/Steel Furnace and Muluna's Steam Steel/Stone Furnace.

Features

Inspired by mods such as Iron Chest Requires Wooden Chest and Steel Chest Requires Iron Chest, using no code from either mod.

It is not recommended to enable this mod on a pre-existing playthrough.

Makes the following recipe changes, dependent on enabled settings:

  • Steel Furnace: 10 brick, 6 steel plate -> stone furnace, 6 brick, 6 steel plate
  • Electric Furnace: 10 steel plate, 10 brick, 5 red circuits -> steel furnace, 4 steel plate, 5 red circuits
  • Electric Miner: 10 iron plate, 5 gears, 3 green circuits -> burner miner, 7 iron plate, 2 gears, 3 green circuits
  • Iron Chest: 8 iron plate -> wooden chest, 6 iron plate
  • Steel Chest: 8 steel plate -> iron chest, 6 steel plate
  • Inserter (yellow/electric): 1 gear, 1 iron plate, 1 green circuit -> burner inserter, 1 green circuit

Too many more to list the specific changes, but also includes the following, dependent on enabled settings:

  • Medium Power Pole -> Big Power Pole
  • Medium Power Pole -> Substation
  • Shotgun -> Combat Shotgun
  • Boiler -> Heat Exchanger
  • Tank -> Car
  • Steam Engine -> Steam Turbine
  • Offshore Pump -> Pumpjack
  • Light Armor -> Heavy Armor -> Modular Armor -> Power Armor -> Power Armor Mk2

Space Age machines included as well, dependent on enabled settings:

  • Foundry: 20 ref.concrete, 50 steel plate, 50 tungsten carbide, 30 green circuits, 20 lube -> steel furnace, 10 ref.concrete, 45 steel plate, 50 tungsten carbide, 30 green circuits, 20 lube
  • Electromagnetic Plant: 50 blue circuits, 50 ref.concrete, 50 steel plate, 150 holmium -> assembler t3, 45 blue circuits, 35 steel plate, 150 holmium
  • Biochamber: 5 green circuits, 20 iron plate, 5 nutrients, 1 landfill, 1 egg -> chemical plant, 1 nutrients, 1 landfill, 1 egg
  • Cryogenic Planet: 20 blue circuits, 20 lithium, 40 ref.concrete, 20 supercapacitor -> chemical plant, 18 blue circuits, 20 lithium, 40 ref.concrete, 20 supercapacitor
  • Foundation: 20 stone, 20 fluoroketone, 4 carbon fiber, 4 lithium plate, 4 tungsten plate -> landfill, 15 fluoroketone, 4 carbon fiber, 4 lithium plate, 4 tungsten plate

Mod Compatibility

If either of the following mods are enabled, and the relevant setting is enabled, then adds the following recipe changes:

  • Gotlag's Electric Furnaces:
    • Electric Steel Furnace: 1 steel furnace, 5 iron plate, 5 green circuits -> 1 steel furnace, 1 electric stone furnace, 4 iron plate, 4 green circuits
  • Muluna:
    • Steam Steel Furnace: 1 steel furnace, 4 pipe -> 1 steel furnace, 1 steam stone furnace

Addendum

Some of the numbers here probably don't make sense. If there are any thoughts regarding tweaking the recipe numbers, please feel free to post them in the discussion section.

Not recommended to enable this on an existing playthrough, since the new inserter recipe affects green science, and the new electric furnace recipe affects purple science.

If playing with Workshop Science, then the new steel furnace recipe will affect the new orange science as well.

The new iron/steel chest recipe (when both are enabled) will also affect any other recipes that require the steel chest (such as logistic chests) by tying them to wood as a raw ingredient. Recommend to keep only one setting enabled, unless playing with a mod that allows for easier wood farming/production.

This mod was made primarily for fun, to give some new use to those old burner/wooden items. Might make some crafts take longer, due to the additional intermediary steps, as no changes were made to any crafting time requirements.
