Tree Collision (ZarSasha's Fork)

The collision box size can be reduced for all non-special trees, as well as the planted Nauvis tree variant, making it much easier to traverse dense forests. Updated fork of the mod "Tree Collision" by skomick.

Tree Collision (ZarSasha's Fork)

This is an updated fork of the mod Tree Collision by skomick. It has the same purpose of reducing the collision box sizes of trees so that forests can be traversed much more easily, but it has been improved in a few ways:

  • Slightly broader application: Collision boxes can not only be reduced for all the normal, naturally generated trees, but also for the plantable Nauvis tree variant from Space Age, if desired.

  • Values are configurable: Since v1.3.0, collision box sizes for normal and planted trees can be configured separately in startup settings. They are all changed according to a factor, rather than being reduced to the same exact size.

  • Preserves forest density: Since v1.3.0, prober distance between trees is maintained in naturally generated forests, which prevents tight clusters of trees and also preserves the intended overall density of forests. In v1.3.2, this also applies to all the dead and dry trees and trunks and the exotic trees on other planets in the Space Age DLC as well.

  • Quiet planted forests: A particularly annoying, ambient critter sound effect has been removed from the planted trees (the sound was far too frequent, and artificial mono-culture forests should have less noises, not more!).

There are a few downsides to keep in mind:

  • The player can traverse forests more easily, but so can enemy creatures.
  • With smaller hit-boxes, the shotgun won't work as well for clearing forests.
  • If planted trees have their collision box size lowered, they can also be manually planted at higher density.

Notes:

  • If you use Squeak Through 2, be sure to disable modification of trees in the startup settings, so that values won't be changed twice.

As an alternative to this mod, you can configure Squeak Through 2 to remove collision from trees and planted trees entirely (using the type "tree" and the name "planted-tree"), while still preserving their original collision boxes. On one hand, this means that even vehicles can pass through forests, and weapons cannot be used to clear them, but on the other hand, that proper distance for both naturally generated and planted trees remain as intended.
