Peaceful Planets

Choose how enemies behave planet by planet: normal, peaceful (they fight back only if attacked), or PASSIVE (they stand there and die without ever fighting back! Great if you just want them to get in the way.). Peaceful Nauvis with a hostile Gleba, a passive Gleba with everything else normal, or any mix, changeable at any time.

Peaceful Planets

The game's Peaceful option applies to every planet at once. This mod lets you choose planet by planet: a peaceful Nauvis while you build up, with Gleba and Vulcanus as dangerous as ever. Or a peaceful Gleba and everything else normal. Or any other mix.

Three modes

  • Normal: enemies attack as usual.
  • Peaceful: fight back if attacked. The game's own peaceful mode, on that planet alone. Enemies leave you alone until something attacks them, including your turrets, and then they and their neighbours fight back. Nests don't expand (unless you turn that on, below) and pollution draws no attacks.
  • Passive: stand there and die. Like peaceful, but they never fight back, whatever you do to them. They're just in the way. Demolishers stop patrolling and stay where they are, so they crush nothing.

Turrets still fire at enemies in every mode. In peaceful mode that counts as attacking them, so mind where you put your turrets.

Settings

Under Settings > Mod settings > Map, or in the mod settings when starting a new game:

  • Enemies on Nauvis: peaceful by default.
  • Enemies on Gleba / Vulcanus: normal by default (Space Age only).
  • Enemies on every other planet and surface: left as the game sets them by default.
  • Planets and surfaces by name: for other mods' planets, for example muluna=passive, pelagos=peaceful. Overrides everything above.
  • Nests expand on peaceful and passive planets: off by default. The game stops nests spreading on a peaceful planet. With this on, they still send small groups out to build new nests, using the map's own expansion settings (how often, how far, how many go), and never next to your buildings. Nothing happens if expansion is off for the map. On a peaceful planet, shooting at a group on its way counts as an attack. Gleba's pentapods don't build new nests in any mode.

A planet set to Normal is normal even if the map was created with the game's Peaceful option on.

You can change these at any time, for example to bring a planet's enemies back once your defences are ready. Enemies already fighting when you change a setting may keep fighting until that fight is over.

Good to know

  • Evolution carries on as usual in every mode, including from killing nests.
  • Passive enemies belong to a second enemy force, peaceful-planets-passive, which never attacks anyone. Other mods that look only at the enemy force won't see them.
  • Switching a planet to or from Passive moves every enemy on it at once. On a huge map that's a pause of a few seconds (about 7 s for 147,000 enemies), once.
  • Before removing this mod, set any Passive planet to Normal and save. The enemies stay passive otherwise.
  • Peaceful or passive surfaces stay that way if the mod is removed, until something changes them.
  • Space platforms are never touched.

Other mods can use the remote interface peaceful-planets: set_mode(name, mode), mode_of(name), expand_now(name).
