Laser Fence

Create a wall of laser beams by placing powered posts that, once charged, span the gap to keep out the bugs. Beams block enemies, burn whatever attacks them, drop when a beam is broken or the power runs short, and come back once the posts recharge. Gate posts make beams your own side can walk and drive through. Research adds reach and cuts power use. A new mod with its own code and art, after the idea of Laser Fence by randomflyingtaco and Sacredanarchy.

Version: 0.9.0

  Info:
    - First release: a new mod with its own code and art, after the idea of Laser Fence by randomflyingtaco and Sacredanarchy, for Factorio 2.1.
  Features:
    - Laser fence posts: once charged, a post fills the gap to the next post in line with three laser beams, up to 12 tiles apart. Beams block biters, characters, vehicles and buildings; trains pass through and belts can run underneath.
    - Whatever attacks a beam from close by takes 5 laser damage per hit back, raised by laser damage research at three quarters of its effect on laser turrets. Enemies caught in the gap when a fence forms are burnt.
    - Beams have 200 health and heal 5 a second. A broken beam drops the beams between its two posts until both have recharged; short of power, a post's beams drop until it is charged again.
    - Laser gate posts: between two gate posts the beams open for your own side, like a gate.
    - Fences can cross at right angles, and a post placed inside a fence splits it.
    - Drag building places a post each time the gap reaches the post's reach.
    - While you hold a post, nearby posts show how far they reach along their row and column.
    - Hovering a post shows its state: charging, holding fences, waiting for a charged post in reach, or what is in the way. Anything in the way is also named in a message, and the fence forms once it is gone.
    - Quality: beams get the health of the lower-quality post of the two, 30% more a level.
    - Research: Laser fence, Laser gate, three levels of range (+3 tiles each) and three of efficiency (-25% of a post's own power each).
    - A post draws 400 kW plus 10 kW per beam tile, shared by the posts at its ends; a post holding no beams draws a tenth of its own power.
    - Startup settings for reach, power, beam health and damage back to attackers.
  Compatibility:
    - Posts and beams keep their full size under Squeak Through 2 and SmoothStart's squeeze setting.
