Turrets are built using salvaged self-learning AI tech from your ship allowing them to get deadlier with practice. Extends turrets via ranking system based on kills. Turrets generated so not limited to vanilla, identifiable by overlaid rank insignia. Rank buffs individual turrets.

g Bug: Space Exploration Meteor Point Defense Attacking Biters, Should Not

Space Exploration mod has a special "Meteor Point Defense" turret that is normally "Disabled by Script", which is reserved exclusively for shooting down Meteors before they collide with your base. When Hero Turrets is installed, they are no longer "Disabled by script", but are now "Working", which causes them to expend their (expensive) ammo and blow holes in your walls when Biters approach their (very large) radius.
