What is this mod designed for?

This mod is designed for UPS-conscious megabases, especially builds that use large containers for quality voiding, recycling setups, or ore-processing layouts where Rocket Silos would otherwise be used as large storage buffers.

The chest provides a simpler storage-focused alternative without needing the additional functionality of a Rocket Silo.

Why does the chest only have 10 inventory slots by default?

The default is 10 inventory slots to align with the intended Rocket Silo replacement use case while keeping the chest focused on large-scale filtered storage and processing setups.

The default inventory size can be changed in:

Settings → Mod settings → Chest default size

Can I increase the chest inventory size?

Yes. The base inventory size is configurable through the mod settings.

You can choose a larger starting inventory depending on your build requirements.

Does chest quality increase its storage capacity?

Yes.

The configured inventory size is the base capacity, and higher-quality versions of the chest scale their storage capacity from that value.

For example, changing the base chest size in the mod settings will also change the starting point used for quality scaling.

What is the maximum chest size?

The chest can scale up to a maximum of 400 inventory slots.

This allows very large storage capacities if desired, although the default is intentionally much smaller.

Is this intended to replace Rocket Silos completely?

No. It is intended as an alternative specifically for builds that were using Rocket Silos primarily because of their large 9×9 footprint and storage/inserter interaction, rather than for launching rockets.

It is particularly useful in megabase designs where Rocket Silos are being used as part of ore processing, quality processing, recycling, or voiding setups.

Why use this instead of a Rocket Silo?

The chest is designed to provide the large footprint and storage-buffer functionality needed by these builds while using a much simpler storage entity.

This makes it more suitable for UPS-focused megabases where large numbers of Rocket Silos are being used only as containers rather than for their intended rocket-launching functionality.

Can the Upgrade Planner replace Rocket Silos with this chest?

Yes.

The mod includes an optional startup setting that allows a configured Upgrade Planner to replace Rocket Silos with Filtered 9×9 Steel Chests.

Enable:

Settings → Mod settings → Startup → Allow Rocket Silo replacement with Upgrade Planner

Restart Factorio after changing the setting.

Then right-click an Upgrade Planner and configure:

Rocket silo → Filtered 9×9 Steel Chest

The replacement is not automatic. Blank Upgrade Planners will not replace Rocket Silos, because the mod does not set the chest as the Rocket Silo's default next_upgrade.

AAI Loaders work with the chest?

Yes,
The concrete pad is considered part of the entity, wanted it to not look janky using inserts against it. Includes a screenshot of this in the mod.
