Dysontorio Charging

by Maoman

Adds a 2x1 (wide) armor equipment item that allows your power armor to wirelessly charge equipment from your factory's power network when you are standing within a power pole's range, similar to how Icarus from Dyson Sphere Program charges. Has an optional "cheat" mode.

How about a little Dyson in your Factorio?

This mod adds a new armor equipment which allows you to wirelessly charge your equipped power suit just by standing near a power pole in your base, similar to how Icarus charges in Dyson Sphere Program. You don't charge faster with more poles like Icarus, however you do charge faster (and drain more power) with more equipment!

Intended to be a mid-game feature to go right along with your mid-game power armor, it unlocks with purple science and costs red circuits to make. This may change in the future for balance reasons.

There is now a new GUI element in the top left corner. A small colored dot: red for not charging, green for charging, and blue for charged. Next update will include a toggleable option to turn this element off.

There are two modes, toggleable in startup settings: Drain mode, and Cheat mode.
When the setting is enabled, you're in drain mode: you'll suck power from your base and slowly charge your equipment over time.
When this setting is disabled, you're cheat mode: if you're standing near a powered pole, your batteries are fully charged, period.
Cheat mode is recommended for servers with many players as it is more UPS friendly.

Known Issues

  • Rarely, the mod can get "stuck" thinking that there is an extra power-drawing entity where there isn't one, so you'll wind up with one extra 50kw draw that won't go away unless you uninstall and reinstall the mod (I think). I have no clue what's causing this and even less of an idea how to fix it.
  • The distance from the pole that you start charging is the same no matter what kind of pole it is.
  • It is very close to, but not quite 100% accurate as to whether the power pole is powered or not. This is impossible to solve with the current API.
  • Chargers can charge faster than the "connected" power network can possibly provide, such as 10 chargers running full speed off of one solar panel. This is impossible to solve with the current API.

Please be thorough with your bug reports, include the exact wording of the error, exactly what you were doing, what you expected to happen, what happened instead, how many chargers were equipped, etc.

(A friend has made me aware I am not the first to do this. I did search before I made this mod but I didn't find anything. Sigh.)
