Hi, I've been playing a game with expensive recipes and have found this mode is really excellent early game, but it has started to come to a crawl once I made it into later game (all science automated except space).

The main issue I've found that I just can't scale up my mining to meet my factory needs and I'll have to just leave the game running and move the miner row every couple hours. The other 'issue' I have is mining into cars is fairly counter-intuitive. I'd think this should either not be allowed or it should be more explicitly allowed in the game. (I actually think having players and vehicles slowly damaged while standing on ore would be an awesome addition, the flore is lava)

I understand if you don't want to address these particular problem in dangOreus, since the solution would likely be having some way to place non-miners in ore at some point (eg, ore-immune belts/boxes) or be able to destroy ore patches without mining them (I actually like this better, since you could 'clear' nearby ore and set up mining deeper out later in the game).

Or perhaps do you have recommended mods to run along-side dangOreus?

Either way, thank you for the excellent mod!

... leave the game running and move the miner row every couple hours.

there are at least two mods which can automate using blueprints, removing old miners and setting up new ones: https://mods.factorio.com/mod/recursive-blueprints (by DaveMcW) and https://mods.factorio.com/mod/conman (by justarandomgeek). but you'll run into some problem with them too: cliffs (probably would all have to be automatically blown up) and water (probably would all have to be landfilled). demonstration videos are available on youtube (search for "recursive blueprints factorio"), eg how to push back biters on a death world and how to expand mining in a spiraling way around your starting factory ...

I actually think having players and vehicles slowly damaged while standing on ore ...
... having some way to place non-miners in ore at some point (eg, ore-immune belts/boxes) ...

there are mod settings for the map for exactly these two cases: "Floor is lava" damages the player, and "Easy mode" allows to build belts and power poles on ore.
it might be nice to also include (metal) chests in that list of items that don't blow up, and maybe have that other mod as optional dependency that can make small iron power poles (that mod was intended for worlds with few wood)

or be able to destroy ore patches without mining them ...

yes, that would be nice ... maybe have some ore/lava resistant pipes which can be filled with water and "cool down" the lava and thus slowly (but still a lot faster than miners) convert ore covered land into usable land.

The other 'issue' I have is mining into cars is fairly counter-intuitive. I'd think this should either not be allowed or it should be more explicitly allowed in the game.
Or perhaps do you have recommended mods to run along-side dangOreus?

there is a mod https://mods.factorio.com/mod/logicarts (by dorfl) that gives us carts which move along pathes and which can be considered movable chests. as they are some kind of cars they can drive on ore and be filled like chests. the only big problem i had when trying that last time: those carts need painted arrows on the ground to define routes for them, to specify where to load and unload, etc, and although the idea behind those painted arrows is to give virtual pathes, they are real items and thus blow up when placed :-(
maybe the two mods could be made compatible so that painted pathes don't blow up, or maybe even an addon could be done that allows adding additional entities to a list (that currently has only belts and poles)

Either way, thank you for the excellent mod!

yes ! :-)

I recommend playing with Nougat Mining as this will allow you to scale your mining up greatly. Place a roboport near ore, feed it construction bots, and off it goes! You can adjust the mod setting to use construction range if you want to babysit your mining operation even less (though biters will harass your bots). Your only limitation at that point will be power.

nougat mining easily fills up my whole storage space :-) :-(
(edit: and even worse, my personal roboport sends bots to help and fills my inv too)
but most of all in a game with harsh settings, it will take quite a while until i have researched roboports.
when i finally have roboports available, power will be no limitation any longer :-)

in addition to what i wrote ("it might be nice to also include (metal) chests in that list of items that don't blow up, and maybe small iron power poles (another mod)") having pipes in that list would be important, not only for my suggestion to cool down (destroy) lava/ore, but also for mining uranium and similar ores.

Being able at some point in late game to destroy ore with some kind of explosive (like for cliffs) would be great. I actually have a big lack of copper (Perlin map), and have far too much of everything else.
Maybe nougat mining could do the trick to dig a path to the copper fields ? I'll give it a try.

https://mods.factorio.com/mod/Nougat_Mining
sends construction bots that are not busy to mine any ore in range of roboports. thus it should be best for just extending the usable area around your base and rarely need to build new roboports when the area has increased by quite some amount.

https://mods.factorio.com/mod/Peppermint_Mining
this mod is similar but different and might be better suited if you want to dig pathes. instead of sending any bots to ore locations in range of roboports, you mark ore yourself, and thus you should be able to build narrow or wide pathes or even clear spots for placing lasers or power poles.
