g Dealing with outpost trash

Hey!

Love the mod! I'm having trouble coming up with a coherent trash handling scheme though. Before I was using automated train logistics (LTN first, now Cybersyn) I would just have an extra wagon on the back of the "universal" train that I'd dump trash into (i.e. stuff that has been placed in "storage chests" in the outposts) and then in the base, I'd unload that wagon into active provider chests that would send items either to where they go or to base-local storage chests.

At first I thought I could do this with Cybersyn too; just smack an extra wagon on and let it "hitchhike" on the Cybersyn trains. But I quickly ran into a problem, because the Cybersyn delivery trains are set to stay at a station until "empty cargo inventory" which obviously doesn't happen when trash has been loaded on.

Then I thought I'd set up a system where I'd send trash contents back to the base using a circuit network, and have a station request those items, which kind of works, but a problem I'm running into there is that these trash chests sometimes have their items taken back out (say I destruct and rebuild something; those items will briefly find themselves in the trash chests) and then when the train arrives, its wait condition will never be satisfied, and the train gets stuck waiting for items that never arrive.

I feel like I'm running out of ideas. Does anyone have a better one? 😅

Currently the only real way to do that is to have a vanilla train stop set to disabled unless there is trash to pick up.

A setting has been added in 1.2.2 called "allow cargo in depots" that will allow you to do this now. When you turn it on, among other things, it enables a setting per-requester station that allows you to disable the "empty cargo inventory" condition.

Nice! I ended up using a vanilla trash train after your initial reply, but I see myself using Cybersyn for the long haul, so at my next base I'll give trash collection with it a try again. 😁

yeah I wasn't sure whether or not I would change it until I thought of a really simple solution.

does this new setting change the dispatch behavior or does it just disable the alert? To rephrase: will it dispatch a train that has cargo under any circumstance?

It will dispatch a train that has cargo, which is intentional because someone might want to do something complicated like have every outpost train also deliver military supplies at the same time.
In all it disables the alert, disables holding trains with cargo in the depot, and adds the ability to per-requester station change the require empty cargo condition to a much less strict inactivity condition.

Thanks very much.
