i Request threshold but for item stacks

1 year, 11 months ago

First of all, hello! This mod seems really promising, I'm trying it out (I'm a heavy LTN user) and I'm loving it. I love the fact that trains can complete a delivery and immediately go to another one.

One feature I'd like to ask is about implementing a "request threshold signal" but for item stacks. I always set my stations' request threshold to at least one full train, and since item stack sizes vary a lot, such a feature would really help.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe I will make this a toggle in the settings, so a user can choose per-map whether the request threshold signal is interpreted as an item count or as a stack count. Let me know if you think such a feature would be useful to you. However I am currently against adding a fourth virtual signal to the mod, I don't like the additional complexity that imposes on new players. Although I could be convinced with a compelling use case or an interesting synergy the signal could have with the other signals.

I believe that a large part of why LTN has a separate stack threshold signal is to make up for the fact they can't specify thresholds per-item. Since in this mod you can I didn't feel it was necessary to implement.

I think one of the reasons LTN has two separate signals is for stations that request both fluids and items, since, like you said, you can't set request thresholds per item. If you set both the "request threshold" and "stack request threshold", the regular threshold is ignored for items but not for fluids, so fluids use that request threshold, while the stack threshold is used for items.

I think a map setting would work, I'm just not sure how it would interact with fluids trains. I think a separate signal would suit me best, but if necessary I can make due with per-item thresholds.

how about a mod setting that enables some sort of "advanced mode" so that additional signals can be implemented but it implies that those are optional?

Such a setting would be perfect imo

I found an excellent solution for doing stack thresholds that is now out in version 1.2.0.

That's great! Just checked it out. Thanks a lot!

Unfortunately this change broke existing blueprints but I've properly future-proofed the design so this never happens again.

Thx for this update. I love it.
