This mod allows you to 'repurpose' the biters for the expansion of the factory. * Want a deeper combat experience in factorio * Would like a more complex balance between the player's relationship with the biters * Just gotta have a secondary option for getting oil early game

after player leaves, after some time, biters that are killed near collector will not be collected. only works when player is close...

correction. it didnt collect because turrets killed the biters too fast. without turrets they attack the collector and it collects - ok. but still, when player far away, biters spawn but dont auto attack the collector. not sure if bug with mod or with vanilla

also, no pumpjack can extract from blood aquifers

By collectors are you referring to the "Humidity Condenser" or the "Biter Grinder" buildings?

I noticed the biters stop updating as well recently in my own play testing on a rail world, I'll see if I can add something to keep those chunks with biters active when the player is away. Would make resource harvesting much better!
I'll run a few tests in the map editor with and without the mod.

As for the pumpjack issue, do you mean you're unable to place a pumpjack on the blood aquifers?
Mind linking/uploading an image of one that's having issues!
(Note that there needs to be enough blood added to the chunk before the blood pumpjack location spawns, will appear on the map!)

After some experimenting in the map editor:
Biters stand still and do nothing when the player is far away
But! If there is pollution being absorbed by the nest then they will move around and attack.
Therefore you'll need to produce pollution to coast them into attacking.

There might be a few additions to the mod I could make to make this not necessary, but for now you'll need some pollution at the nests.
If you are still having issues after adding some pollution to the mix, then send a screenshot of your setup and I can try and reproduce!

by collectors i meant Biter Grinders. i played the old version without the Humidity Condenser so i didnt know it exists.
several ways you could help with biter aggression is by adding pollution to the Grinder, or arming it with a laser with 0 damage. could make it as an technological upgrade. also could let upgrade the production speed.

as for pumpjack- yes , im unable to place a pumpjack on the blood aquifers. its the normal oil pumpjack right?

Good ideas! I'll do some experimenting to see where I can get!

As for the pumpjack, it's just the normal one.
Do you happen to have an image of the location to one?

maybe its because i also use krastorio?

some notes - i managed to harvest way too much blood from a single nest (1 biter building). i use it to provide iron and copper for almost an entire base (at stage of just before sending the first rocket to space). feels like its too much from 1 nest. its 20 times less effective when im far away and biters are mostly passive.

with harvesting from aquifers it would be even more insane.

excellent mod btw. ive been looking forever for mods that let me use biters to help the base. this mod does it.

That's amazing to hear!
Can you send a few images of you base, I would really like to see them!

For my rail world I've only been turning the blood into oil and didn't realize how strong I set it to be for ores :o
I totally didn't intend to make the mod that insane but glad to hear you've found a way to make it awesome!

Also the pumpjack probably doesn't work with krastorio because I haven't tested it with many mods, but I'll look into how to make it more compatible for you!

How much is running off juice1 and juice2? That's wild!
I've definitely got some balancing to do. But if I ever to some rebalancing I'll create mod settings to allow anyone to play how they want!
I haven't even gotten that far into a run myself with this mod yet.

they are significantly lower when im not near, for the reasons we talked about. just a 2-3 minutes of me standing near there are enough for at least an hour of resources. but each one i think is at least 2 times better than a normal mining patch

Alright! I've updated the mod to both be compatible with the Krastorio 2 Oil pumpjack!

I've also added a new tech and building that produces pollution to pull the biters out and get them to attack even when you're not around.
Let me know if this fixes the issues you had!

pump is working. some more things to fix -
1. armored biters (from the armored biters mod) dont generate anything in the grinder
2. blood to bio sludge 2 recipe cant be made anywhere.
3. the best new evaporator doesnt work on electricity. was that intentional? also it uses way too much blood to work, i think. it looks like using the slow one is actually better, since it uses less blood. there are plenty of nests that get my base pollution, so i dont really need extra pollution to use nests, unless i choose far nests, but why would i?

the dehumidifier doesnt help the biters to choose to attack the grinder. they still usually wait, and attack after 15 seconds. i think it just wakes them up to be aggressive. 50% of the time they dont choose the grinder. if im near, its closer to 90%, and they dont wait

ideas - maybe, if the grinders are adjacent, they can share the biter meat? the biter always attack 1 grinder, and it gets way too much meat to use. most of it goes to waste

add barrels of blood item
add a suit reactor that runs on these barrels
add an suit item that heals the player, that runs on these barrels
add an suit item that collects blood when player is hit
add a permanent follower robot in form of huge monster, that is made of blood. some kind of blood golem. gets stronger by killing biters
add some blood virus item that can be injected into nests to enhance them - makes them spawn biters much faster

Since the original ask has been fixed, mind if you open new threads for these ideas / issues?
I'll answer what I can here though!

  1. Makes sense, I haven't done any testing with any other mods, so stuff isn't going to work, but I can look into it! (Maybe open a mod suggestion discussion for this one?)
  2. I actually just fixed the uranium and blood to bio sludge 2 recipes, give them a try!
  3. The different evaporator's just work at different rates, they are not any better or worse, just create different amounts of pollution at different rates, but I can balance them a bit more! These are only used for far nests, you don't need to use them for close nests.
    Also if the evaporator isn't cutting it right now, you can use the mod setting for making the biter grinders produce pollution while idling like you suggested before!

I'll do some more testing with them, but even when I was super far away they seemed to attack after every spawn with 1 fast or 2 mid or 4 slow.

I thought by default there already was the ability to barrel any liquid, can you not do this? (maybe it's a Krastorio 2 thing?
Those are some wild ideas haha I'll take some notes!

Got some test results from using the evaporators!
Looks like even if they are in a different chunk than the nest they work in base factorio without issues.
It could be the armored biters mod that's creating the issue, I'll investigate that later.

The setup is the same across all 3 of the tests, 5 minute run seeded with 200 blood to get the evaporator started (from the pumpjack.

Fast had the greatest yield ~13k

Medium was close but under fast, ~11k

Slow was lower but still self sustaining without issue, ~7k

I added a new feature that should help extract even more out of an area, and also allows a way to "share" the biters between multiple machines with the latest patch 0.2.7!
