b Not adding Quality from Modules properly?

a month ago

Hello,

Currently on 2.1 it seems this mod isn't adding the Quality bonus from Quality modules properly. I have the base Quality set to 35%, and added modules into the machine to get it to 102.5% Quality. This should be guaranteeing a quality upgrade, but it seems it's only using the base 35% and ignoring the modules placed in it, I'm still getting mostly normal quality items out of the Augmentor.

It should be noted that I am playing with the Adjustable Quality mod, not sure if that is breaking the Augmentors or not.

I also tried setting the Base Quality to 100%, and it's still not upgrading consistently. Currently the machine is at 167.5% quality and still outputting mostly normal quality items.

Hello,

I haven't checked but can you try with Adjustable Quality disabled temporarily? Both of these mods touch the same entities and quality multipliers so probably if you tweak some values from there, it affects the Augmentor outcomes.

Although, the new verison 2.1.20 broke many things (especially with fuel_category -> fuel_categories change), I don't think they touched quality thingies.

Best,
Cagri.

Nope, still not working even with Adjustable Quality disabled. I've attached some screenshots here:

You can see the Quality of the Augmentor is at 130% but the steel chests remain at normal quality.

Here is another screenshot of my complete modlist, in case it's something other than Adjustable Quality, though I can't see anything that would cause it.

So in the interest of narrowing it down, I removed every mod except Augmentor and tried the experiment again. Same result. Even with over 100% chance to augment, I'm still getting mostly normal quality steel chests out of the augmentor. So that confirms it's not a conflict with another mod. It is still upgrading the quality sometimes, but nowhere near what it should be.

Hello,

Sorry, I could not reproduce the problem.

With similar settings, the output seems reasonable.

  1. Settings:

  2. Normal Augmentor with 100% Quality -> converts 100 Iron plate into 94 Uncommon + 4 Uncommon + 2 Rare

  3. Beaconed + Moduled Augmentor with +100% Quality -> converts 100 Iron plate into 90 Uncommon + 9 Uncommon + 1 Rare

I did this test with "Augmentor 2.1.1" & "Factorio 2.1.21".

Maybe you are facing another problem related to Factorio mod changes. See previous thread: https://mods.factorio.com/mod/augmentor/discussion/6a40ca9dab3f6df4e37ee65e

This is nuts. See screenshots here:

I completely uninstalled the mod, deleted the mod-settings.dat file, reinstalled a fresh copy of the mod, made sure my versions were the same as what you commented, made sure there were no other mods installed, made sure the quality in the settings was set to 100%, and still didn't get a single quality upgrade from the augmentor.

Is it because I spawned them in from the editor? Did you use a different method to get the augmentors when you tested it?

Okay, apparently it is related to the editor or infinity chests.. I just tried using the /cheat all command in game, and now the augmentor is working properly. It's upgrading iron plates from normal to uncommon every time. So the editor and infinity chest versions of the augmentor are bugged out somehow? Would make sense, as I first noticed it when I was using the editor and infinity chests to build things.

Seems when I place the augmentor using Editor or Infinity chests, it doesn't work, but if I craft one normally it does. Bizarre bug.

Here are the exact steps I've taken to reproduce the bug.

Start a new game, completely default settings. Immediately use the /editor command twice, since the first usage prompts a warning.
Use the editor to spawn an infinity chest then leave the editor.
Use the infinity chest to spawn the augmentor, a substation, an electric energy interface (cheated infinite energy, same tab as infinity chest) some steel chests, some bulk inserters and a stack of iron plates.
Build the set up from the screen shots
Failure

Seems actually crafting the augmentor normally does in fact have it work, and looking at the debug tooltip info they seem to be the exact same augmentor either way. So it's super weird that using the /editor command breaks the augmentor.

OKAY. I've figured it out. It's not bugged at all I think. Scrap recycling machines were the answer. I had the idea to test to see what happened if I started a new seed and immediately used a scrap recycler, since they're similar to augmentors. And wouldn't you know it, you can't recycle anything until you've actually unlocked the recycler in the tech tree.

So I tried my same set up, and this time I researched both the augmentor tech and quality and BAM! WORKING AUGMENTORS! This has been driving me crazy, I was trying to build blue prints for a factory in advance and not having augmentors was throwing a wrench into everything, but I was just too lazy to research everything so I didn't actually have them unlocked. The augmentor wasn't able to set the hidden recipe thing to actually augment the item because it was locked.

So there it is, problem solved. Sorry to have bothered you so much about this, I genuinely thought it was a bug and wasn't working properly. I did also notice that if you try to recycle an item, a message pops up saying you can't because the recycler isn't unlocked. In order to avoid this confusion in the future, is it possible to add that same message to the augmentor, so if someone tries to use it without unlocking it, it will just refuse?

Great find, I didn't know this behavior. And yes I'll try to add a description (:
