Spidertron Enhancements

I am currently running alot of mods alongside spidertron tiers. The smaller earlier game spidertrons in the mod have less leg reach meaning they have trouble moving over or around certain structures. The worst offender being Factorismo. Would it be at all possible to apply the pathing of a lead spidertron you use alt left click with any following spidertrons? Even without any mods involved following spidertrons often get caught on lake edges.

Also maybe an option in the mod setting to have them avoid uranium deposits would be a nice addition so i don't have to double check whether the pathing is trying to kill me (one of the mods added radiation damage)

Thanks for the suggestions.

  1. Sort of doable, but quite complex. The mod would have to save what each spidertron is following so that it can be set back when they reach their destination. Then what happens if a player interferes by manually moving one, or destroying the original one. All rather complex and I don't have time to work out the intricacies at the moment.
    My advice is to make sure that the lead spidertron is not faster than the others, and that the chains are not too long (have lots of spidertrons following a single leader).

  2. I could mostly avoid the paths crossing uranium itself, but the uranium does damage from 7 tiles away and there's absolutely no way to make the path stay 7 tiles away from the uranium, so this feature feels a little pointless. The spidertron hugging a uranium patch would actually mean it would be in contact with it for longer than if it just went straight through. You'd be better off petitioning K2 to stop dealing radioactive damage when in a spidertron. This could be argued to be thematic - spidertrons have great radioactive shielding?!

I could make them pathfind around buildings (like factorissimo), but then they would pathfind around all buildings, including walls. This makes them a lot less effective in the 99% usecase, and in some circumstances can make the pathfinder take a minute or more to find a route. I'm hesitant to do this for that reason.

Well, a year later, I've come back to this and made the pathfinding around large-buildings-only work really well, so this will be in the next release :)

I realise that just pathfinding around large buildings isn't really what you were asking for anyway, but it is a cool feature regardless, and it is now released.
