Just start a peaceful / no enemy map, but don't think I got any Pentapod eggs?
Should they be there, do I need to look further out?

Same issue. I'm finally trying to do "gleba". Not sure where to get eggs in peaceful mode
The answer is - there are some biter nests that look green and drop those eggs when you kill them
