Second: how difficult would it be to add a variable solar panel output? Like in a more realistic way.

It's a bit trick and it can easily be incompatible with other mod.
I don't know what you expect by "realistic way", but there is Cosine Solar Curve mod.
Would it be what you expect to be realistic?

I mean that for example in some days the solar production is lower than others adding a more dynamism to solar panels.
Thanks also for sharing the Cosine Solar Curve mod Its also really interesting I will give it a try.
Maybe as he mentions its posible to create a simple mod that adjust the solar-power multiplier of the planet (Nauvis) each day with some variations to creat this dynamism. (Maybe its time for me trying to create my first mod)
