Safe Start


Bad news: You crash-landed on a planet infested by hostile natives. Good news: You managed to put 'er down in the only secure area! The Safe Start mod can surround your Nauvis starting area with a perimeter canal, protecting you from enemy expansion, or a tree buffer to contain pollution. Biters will be cleared from the safety zone (achievements unaffected). Customize the number of chunks out from the spawn point to protect as well as the canal width, plus some other goodies.

b Possible bug

Hello I think there might be a possible, but I can't rule it out as I haven't tested without other mods but after roughly 1day ingame time the UPS jump to above 1.x and the game constantly stutter ever 2 seconds or so. I've tried restarting game and such but it seem to be this mod causing it as I can see on the debug and when I remove this the lag disapears, It's not a big deal as the effect is still in place but perhaps something to look into

Mods I know for a fact that affect terrain and trees is Terrain Evovled 2, might be others that I can't recall right now.
I think I've have the starting area ramped up to about 10

Good catch. I haven’t seen that in my testing, but I also wasn’t exhaustive. Mind sharing a list of your other mods so I can try to reproduce the stutter? The intention of this mod is to run in the first 5 or so seconds of a game then effectively disappear. For larger starting areas though it might continue running until all of the affected chunks are generated.

Alright, I've noticed it with other combinations of mods as well, such as with K2 and SE seperately and combined. always around the same time frame

I discovered a long-running process that continues to affect new chunks even after the initial starting area has been fully-uncovered. That's likely conflicting with other terrain mods. After the Safe Start area has been fully-generated the mod should be able to shut itself down. I decided to fix this by rewriting the mod to pre-generate all of the affected chunks on game start and then shut down so it won't affect future chunks. Smaller maps (20x20) take ~ 3 seconds while large maps (200x200) take ~ 2 mins to process. UPS stays at 60 the whole time. I'll test with some of the mods on your list. I should be able to release an update this weekend.

Awryt, I had a suspicion it was some other mods that could cause this but I thought it was something here that actually made this happen when I saw it was the UPS cost from this. Especially Terrain Evolution 2 as that modify trees, wild fire, tiles, sub tiles even turn tiles into water and so on.

that's nice, furture proof in this sense then or at least should be. Keep up the good work and take your time :=)
