Realistic Artillery Shells

Adds five distinct artillery shell variants with physics-based explosion effects and realistic weapon mechanics. Each shell type offers a different tactical role, with damage and visuals adapted for game balance.

RAS 2.1.1 also bundles optional artillery turrets and targeting remotes for each shell type. Everything is included in this mod; the former RealisticArtilleryShellsRemotes mod is no longer needed. The feature is disabled by default.

Damage values below are shown as Normal/RampantFixed. When RampantFixed is installed, every authored RAS damage value is exactly 5x normal. Recipes shown use the default ingredients. Downstream compatibility layers may replace them.

  • Minimal spread, capped at 15 spread chains
  • Medium scorchmark
  • Affected enemies burn for 45 seconds

Damage (Normal/RampantFixed): 200/1000 initial fire, 100/500 initial explosion, 20/100 sticker per tick, 10/50 ground-fire per tick

Recipe: 1 Artillery Shell + 5 Plastic Bars + 10 Sulfur + 100 Light Oil

Unlock: Artillery technology

3. Fuel-Air Explosive (FAE/Thermobaric) Shell

Role: Massive overpressure damage with aggressive, short-lived combustion

Key Features:

  • 20-tile primary damage area
  • Deterministic explosion-damage rings at 12 and 25 tiles
  • 80 ignition-fire placements, 60 local smoke effects, and 250 outer smoke projectiles
  • Fires last 5-8 seconds and spread aggressively
  • Rolling fireball visuals, a large scorchmark, and a 40-tick camera shake

Damage (Normal/RampantFixed): 800/4000 explosion, 400/2000 physical, 300/1500 fire, 8/40 fire per tick; 100/500 ground-zero shockwave fading from 100% to 1%; 400/2000 outer shockwave fading from 100% to 10%

Recipe: 1 Artillery Shell + 10 Explosives + 5 Steel Plate + 200 Light Oil

Unlock: Artillery technology

4. Nuclear Artillery Shell

Role: Strategic area destruction with deterministic long-range shockwave damage

Key Features:

  • Direct ground-zero damage, a 35-tile blast area, and explosion-damage rings at 30 and 100 tiles
  • Destroys cliffs within 35 tiles and decoratives within 60 tiles
  • Leaves a large crater decal and a nuclear-ground decorative ring without replacing terrain tiles
  • Four-part, 4x-scale lit mushroom cloud and a 60-tick camera shake; there is no separate screen-burn effect
  • 500 thermal-fire placements and 25 persistent smouldering smoke sources
  • Decorative budget: 750 cluster explosions, 500 fire-smoke effects, 1,000 shockwave visuals, and 300 nuclear-smoke effects
  • Reveals the impact area on the map

Damage (Normal/RampantFixed): 4000/20000 direct explosion, 2000/10000 direct physical; 2000/10000 blast explosion, 1000/5000 blast physical, and 2000/10000 blast fire within 35 tiles; 100/500 ground-zero shockwave fading from 100% to 1%; 400/2000 outer shockwave fading from 100% to 10%; 10/50 fire per tick

Recipe: 1 Artillery Shell + 30 Uranium-235 + 10 Uranium-238 + 10 Explosives

Unlock: Atomic Bomb technology

5. Antimatter Artillery Shell

Role: Ultimate area weapon with extreme direct damage and the largest shockwave radius

Key Features:

  • Direct vaporization damage, a 50-tile gamma-damage area, an 80-tile annihilation area, and explosion-damage rings at 45 and 150 tiles
  • Destroys cliffs within 60 tiles and decoratives within 100 tiles
  • Leaves a 5x-scale purple crater decal and a nuclear-ground decorative ring without replacing terrain tiles
  • Purple 5x-scale lit mushroom clouds and an 80-tick camera shake; the gamma burst is damage rather than a timed screen effect
  • 800 plasma-fire placements, 100 plasma-smoke effects, and 50 persistent smoke sources
  • Decorative budget: 1,250 cluster explosions, 750 fire-smoke effects, 1,500 shockwave visuals, and 500 nuclear-smoke effects

Features

Built-in Artillery Remotes and Turrets (RAS 2.1.1+)

Enable Enable shell-specific artillery remotes and turrets under Settings → Mod settings → Startup. The setting is off by default, and changing it requires a game restart.

When enabled:

  • Five color-coded turret and remote pairs unlock with Artillery technology.
  • Each dedicated turret accepts its matching RAS shell or standard artillery shells.
  • Dedicated remotes target only their matching shell type. The standard remote still targets all shell types.
  • RAS shells require their dedicated turrets; standard turrets and artillery wagons cannot load them while the feature is enabled.

When disabled, none of the optional turrets, remote items, or recipes are created. RAS shells retain their normal compatibility with standard artillery turrets and wagons.

Turning the setting off later removes the optional content, including existing dedicated turrets and remote items, when a save is loaded.

Rampant AI Compatibility

All shells support RampantFixed with automatic 5x damage scaling, including direct hits, persistent fire, stickers, and deterministic shockwave damage.

Multi-Mod Compatibility

  • Base game and Space Age: Supports the base game with or without Space Age.
  • Krastorio2 2.1.2+: Uses K2 nuclear and antimatter recipes and technologies, replaces superseded K2 artillery variants, and matches the finalized base artillery shell stack size.
  • Space Exploration 0.7.60+: Adds weapon delivery cannon packages and matching artillery targeters for all five shells. With K2, antimatter packages and targeters unlock with Antimatter Ammo technology. RAS loads after Space Exploration Postprocess 0.7.6+ to retain finalized recipe ingredients.
  • RampantFixed 2.03.03+: Applies the automatic 5x damage multiplier.

Space Age and Space Exploration are supported separately; they cannot be enabled together.

Visual Effects

  • Scaled Visuals: Nuclear (4x) and Antimatter (5x) mushroom clouds, with camera shakes and lit explosion effects.
  • Color Coding: Purple-tinted antimatter explosions, fire, smoke, and crater effects.
  • Terrain Effects: Crater decals and decorative nuclear-ground rings without replacing terrain tiles.

RAS does not add radiation or fallout entities or gameplay mechanics. Nuclear and antimatter smoke and ground effects are visual.

Localization

Shell names and descriptions are available in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Portuguese (Brazil), Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. The optional turrets, remotes, and startup setting currently have English text.
