Have you ever felt disappointed at the progression in Space Age once you've reached Promethium Science? You unlock a new science type, only for it to research just one thing, which hardly impacts your gameplay...

Be disappointed no longer! With Promethium Age, each planet gets a new technology that adds another logistical challenge for you to solve, with a powerful reward for doing so.

Promethium Fuel:

A new vehicle fuel type that boasts even higher acceleration, top speed, and fuel value. Now the fuel which offers the highest speed and acceleration also offers the highest energy density!

Deep Core Drill:

Allows you to harvest tungsten from anywhere on the surface of Vulcanus. However, this drill consumes cold flouroketone, so you will need to ship a steady supply from Aquilo to keep it running!

Lightning Conduit:

A super charged accumulator meets a lightning collector. This building boasts an increased collection range and a drastically lesser drain rate, which means it can hold on to those gigawatts of lightning power for much longer!

Terraform Soils:

A new tier of Gleba soils allows placement on the respective "midlands" that border each of the main fruit biomes, allowing for expansive farming areas, and reducing pesky 1-tile holes that prevent tree placement.

This also adds Compost, a tile placeable anywhere on Nauvis that allows the planting of trees, and which also consumes a small amount of pollution, like a natural tile. An effective way to fight pollution, and tree seeds are a necessary ingredient for the new Gleba soil tier.

Aquilo Thermodynamics:

This adds a new heat pipe which more efficiently transfers heat around, allowing a heating tower or nuclear reactor to keep more heated.

It also adds the ability to freeze biter eggs, which gain a 10x increase to their spoilage timer while frozen. They can be thawed in an electric furnace when needed.

Landing Pad MK2:

This is an upgrade to the landing pad, featuring an enormous storage, and a massively increased number of input bays for cargo drop pods. Since its 24x24, it allows the player to extract 4 stacked green belts of each science type with only inserters, and no bots!

Other Changes:

Train cargo and fluid wagons now scale with quality, making them a viable alternative to belting and piping everything everywhere!

Promethium Science has been completely overhauled, and now works as follows:

  1. The promethium chunks required has been reduced from 25 -> 12 (since pushing to high SPM with promethium science in the vanilla game is usually limited by your specs, and not your creativity. This halves the cost of the most UPS intensive part of the process)

  2. Promethium chunks now have a spoilage timer of 30 minutes, to prevent belt weaving ships which circumvent the egg-racing challenge

  3. The promethium science pack now also has a spoilage timer, which is thousands of hours long (it will realistically never degrade even a fraction of a percentage point)

  4. This means that the promethium science pack now has a freshness that determines its durability, based on the freshness of the chunks and eggs used to craft it.

  5. Thus, the player is punished for not crafting with chunks immediately after collecting them, and is also punished for getting eggs to the solar system edge too slowly (now the benefit of the frozen eggs becomes more clear :] )
