I have been attempting to start the mod for about half an hour now, and can join the world just fine, but have been unable to do much; there doesn't seem to be anything I can interact with, there don't seem to be enough resources to get the unlocking researches to get things like the mission. Am I missing anything?

Also there don't seem to be any asteroids surrounding me, is that normal?

Some added notes; I can access things like the character stats screen, and there shows a different platform called player's Platform that seems to have asteroids around it, with a hub in the center. I am on a platform called "[Vortex Drill]" which is under "other" in the map menu. It seems to contain necessary items for starting such as a crusher and collector, which weren't in my chest in the spawning platform. Added testing shows that the platforms are always called that, that the starting items in both platforms are always the same, and that I can send items down from the hubbed platform, idk to where.

My best guess is that a bug caused there to be two starting configurations, becoming one platform each, or that I got the wrong starting items and the other platform is a seperate floor to go to later for producing stuff, perhaps an interior? If so, I haven't figured out how to access it.

Nevermind, I am just an idiot, apparently you're not intended to be able to go to the other platform, instead building it like vanilla space platforms and using the linked chest.
