The robots attack any nest they see in the fog of war (I don't know if they do it beyond that one as well). Which is... nice, but it causes them to commit mass suicide. Without the option to auto-place them, it's not very optimized, but I love the idea of ​​robots self-defending my base.

The robots only attack nests that have been discovered by radar or the player. So they shouldn't attack nests outside the revealed area. But what do you mean by committing mass suicide? Do they stop moving, or do you mean their pathfinding when attacking?

My bad, I meant within the explored map. Regarding "mass suicide," I'm simply referring to the fact that they rush to attack numerous nests, even though there are only a couple of them, and they obviously don't last long. Although their pathfinding is very good.
That's why I'd like them to be able to position themselves in one place and defend that area, or... some way to keep them from straying too far from the area with robots that can heal them.. just saying, thank you.

I could add a setting and some logic that makes the destroyers stay at their position if their numbers go below a certain number. Adding logic that makes them retreat is a bit more difficult. To defend an area, use the defender or sentry robots.
