First of, great idea, finally some use for enemies!

Do you know about Alien Loot Economy? It has some similar ideas.
What I like about your approach is that you get more biomass the more powerful the spawners are, at least it seems to works that way.
Bio Virus against aliens is a great idea as well, fits the theme of the game pretty well, IMHO.

Some questions:
1) How do you get biomass before you researched the biomass collector? Hand harvesting doesn't seem to work...
2) You need 400 Living tissues to get the growth vat, which is about 8k raw biomass. This seems a lot. Is this intentional?

A few suggestions:
1) Maybe another color for the resources on the map would be good, it looks a lot like crude-oil, making oil way harder to see.
2) Maybe have enemies drop some resources well, but to pickup, not to mine?
3) Don't unlock all the scourge-weapons at once, I'd separate all of the into different research chains, where the later weapons are more expensive to research. They are pretty powerful, after all.
4) Maybe differentiate alien science pack from production science pack, they're both almost the same color
5) Maybe research to turn biomass into raw resource? Like copper/iron/coal? Not neccesarily realistic, but would give another way to use biters.
6) Call me crazy, but some way to farm biters?

Yes the mod is pretty much inspired by Alien Loot Economy, though i never used it myself.

1) You should be able to place normal miners on the patches, but i aparently broke hand mining when i changed biomass resource type to get the collector to work on only biomass
2) the balance is still a bit off, and that is indeed alot, but if you start clearing on higher evolution you can get all the reseach from just a few bases

1) Resource colour needs changing i agree.

2) I considered making biters drop resources, but decided against it as i wanted you to need to clear bases for it, and not flood your walls with endless items, but i might add a setting for it

3) This seems like a good call
4) Yea those need a seperate sprite, honestly just wanted to get it done...

5) This would certainly tie the mod closer to the basegame and give it more purpouse, but i cant think of a good way of doing it

6) Whats next, farming trees? insane! Though that might be a good late game idea, as even growth vats consume all your dead tissue and you will need to keep farming nests forever, and thats the opposite of automated!

2) There is a mod that collects dropped items called Schall Pickup Tower that would clear up the drops from the floods on the wall.

6) There was another mod that did this awhile ago, don't remember that ones name, but it was fun since you can make sum of the spawns be enemy instead of allay and attack your base and if you didn't take that into account, well... you get the point. This was back when they dropped science packs.
Also, there are Tree Farming mods, I use them to help with power and with Bob Mods since you need a crap ton of wood with those mods.

2) I'll probably play with it turned on. Making it farmable would be fun. There is one mod that shows you can get the resources only using belts so you don't need extra mods.

5) I think it should be something similar to what bio industries or bioscience in SE do. Make it a source of wood and coal, bioplastic, source of fish.
Also, biomass should be convertible to oil. Probably in a more difficult way than normal oil production.
personally, I think it would be boring and game breakign to have it as an universal source of material.

Most of these things have been implemented by now.

  • Biters do drop some biomass now, dependent on their size
  • it is true, you wont need extra mods to pick up the items in vanilla, if you play with rampant however they will chew on your belts.

  • you can make coal and oil from it.

  • bio plastic seems redundant as you can just convert it to oil and then to plastic
  • I dont intend to add ways to convert it to wood and fish, that seems werid to me.

the recipes to make ore from will probably not produce enough resources to keep your base running from, and you only get acces to them quite late in the game, and to get a significant amount of biomass to convert you will either have to be playing a deathworld, or spend all your time clearing bases.
