We're (3 players) playing SA/Deathworld/Big Monster/Ferrari's bugs with 2x day/night length. We're playing with lit tiles stop spawns. For the longest time, there was always a player inside the base, so we were safe, and got complacent.
1st time we got got, early game, we had a small patch of base undeveloped, getting ready for expansion. A daytime assault on nearby nests went on a bit too long and drifted into night time... and suddenly we had a small spawn inside our base, had to cancel the assault and rush back. A+
2nd time we had just expanded our base, and we knew better than to leave until things were secure. Then a BM boss lands on one side of the base and drew us all there. The fight went into night time, and and bingo, got another spawn on the other side, just outside of the player safe zone. A++
I appreciate how it forces you to develop your base fully and sensibly. Can't just wall off a continent and sit back.
