While watching a video on the mod, I realized it could be quite interesting to make the mod function on a checkerboard system - like a chess board.

I hope to try to mod it and PR it over the next [period of time it takes to make my first factorio mod], if you do not beat me to it, at least.

Ideally it would support
- customization of the size of the area the checkerboard 'tiles'
- insets (to allow small passages 1 or 2 or so tiles wide between the tiles of ore)
- negative insets/outsets? padding? (making it so they are overlapping [x] tiles at the corners of the ore tiles

after looking at the code and other presets, I think I will/would make this function very similar to scrambled - as that maximizes the difficulty of dealing with the ores, to compensate for the 'easy' nature of having new plots of land you can unlock by mining up portions of a tile selectively.

Currently this mod is not updated to 2.0. I'm still working on the full rewrite. Unless you intend the PR to be for 1.1 or wish to do so for learning purposes, I would warn against wasting your time.

ah, thank you for the heads up! I might pick something else as my first-mod for learning purposes, then. might make me better suited to implement this after your rewrite
