Water Ford

by drdozer

A walkable ford over water — players, biters and Pyanodon's land caravans cross, while fish swim across the deck and Cargo Ships still sail over it. Plus a matching Wooden Flooring for dry land: honey-toned boards with a built bumper edge. New decorative tiles for Factorio 2.1.

Changelog

Version: 1.0.1
Date: 18. 10. 2026
  Features:
    - New tile: Wooden Flooring. Honey-toned plank boards for dry land,
edged with a raised wooden bumper where they meet water and a
wooden trim where they meet other terrain. Not placeable over
water; pleasant to walk on (1.1x speed).
    - The Wooden Ford deck gains ballast: pebbles and small stones
sprinkle the boards, sliced at the waterline so the submerged
parts tint with the water like the pilings do.
    - The Wooden Ford deck lays far richer: 16 deck variants in each of
      1x1/2x2/4x4 (was 8 single tiles).
  Changes:
    - In-game identifiers now match the display names: the land
      tile/item/recipe are wooden-flooring (was boards-land), the water
      tile/item/recipe are wooden-ford (was water-ford). The technology
and the mod itself keep the water-ford id. Saves and blueprints
convert automatically via the shipped migration (placed tiles,
held or stored items and crafting queues all rename); only
external scripts referencing the old identifiers need updating.
    - Stone paths draw over Wooden Flooring at shared boundaries (the
flooring sits just below stone brick in the terrain layer order).
  Balancing:
    - Recipes reworked, one board per craft, scarce by design. Wooden
Flooring: 2 wood + 1 iron stick. Wooden Ford is composed: 1
      flooring + 2 wood + 100 stone (was 4 wood + 1 iron stick + 50
      stone). Pyanodon: flooring 2 treated-wood + 1 iron-stick + 8
      bolts; ford 1 flooring + 1 log + 200 gravel — net ford cost
unchanged, now composed via the flooring.
    - Wooden Ford crossing speed tuned to 0.9× — faster than wading
through shallow water (0.8×), slightly slower than dry land (1.0×).
  Locale:
    - Rewritten item, tile and technology descriptions: short tooltips,
expanded copy on the Factoriopedia tile pages.
  Bugfixes:
    - Wooden Ford no longer reads as open water on the minimap: both
boards tiles share one map color, ochre (#cc7722), measured to
separate from every vanilla terrain color better than vanilla
      terrains separate from each other.
  Graphics:
    - Dedicated technology icon; refined item icon (an exact slice of
      the deck art).
    - New mod-portal thumbnail.
    - Footstep sounds on both boards tiles: 13 recorded board-step
variations (incl. creaky steps and a quieter squeak) on Wooden
Flooring, and 10 board-over-water composites on Wooden Ford (splash
      leads the thunk, as when wading). Recorded by the maintainer;
governed by the Footsteps mixer slider.
Version: 1.0.0
Date: 13. 10. 2026
  Changes:
    - Water Ford: a walkable, place-on-water tile - the deck sits under animated
water with wooden pilings semi-submerged at the rims; ships still cross.
    - Without Pyanodon Alien Life: unlocked by the concrete tech, crafted from
      4 wood, 1 iron stick, 50 stone.
    - With Pyanodon Alien Life: unlocked after creosote, crafted from 2
      treated-wood, 1 iron-stick, 8 bolts, 1 log, 200 gravel (bed ballast).
    - Recipes craft 1 ford per 10s; fords are intentionally scarce.
    - Fords can only be placed on water (enforced at runtime; illegal
      placements are reverted and refunded).
