Train Inertial Singularity

by Etrunon

Trains now print free resources—as long as they keep moving. Exploit spacetime to multiply cargo on long journeys, but beware: traffic jams will collapse the waveform and destroy your bonus. The factory must roll.

Train Inertial Singularity

They told us the factory must grow. They didn't tell us how to bend spacetime to make it happen.

Welcome to the Train Inertial Singularity project. By exploiting localized Kerr-Newman traversals and harnessing the Cherenkov radiation generated in the wake of our locomotives, we've achieved the impossible: spontaneous matter synthesis inside moving cargo wagons. As your trains punch through spacetime at high speeds, the quantum uncertainty of the cargo increases. In layman's terms? The inserters can't pinpoint the exact amount of items stored anymore, and you arrive with more cargo than you loaded.

But beware: the universe hates paradoxes. Keep them moving, or watch your profits vanish into the ether.

Go Big or Go Home

Efficiency is no longer about short, safe hops. The Train Inertial Singularity actively rewards massive, sprawling rail networks. The further and faster your trains travel without stopping, the more free resources you manifest from the void. It is time to design colossal trains, endless tracks, and flawless intersections.

The Physics of Profit

Momentum is Mass
As your locomotive travels, the contents of your cargo wagons passively multiply. This growth follows a logarithmic curve tied directly to the train's straight-line displacement from the starting station to the destination station (So no loops or spiral, sadly , I made this choice for UPS reasons).

Fuel-Injected Paradoxes
Advanced technologies unlock higher energy-density fuels, which directly multiply the singularity effect. Better fuel burns a larger spacetime wake, yielding a significantly higher cargo bonus.

The Waveform Collapse (Do Not Stop!)
This is the catch, and it is entirely unforgiving. If your train halts at a red signal, gets stuck in a traffic jam and loses momentum before reaching its destination, the waveform collapses. Your generated bonus cargo will suffer rapid, catastrophic decay—halving every few seconds until only your original payload remains. While you will never lose the base items you loaded, every second your train spends braking or waiting is a second of bonus material bleeding out of existence. Perfect signaling is no longer just good practice; it is mandatory.

Safe Extraction
When the train arrives at its scheduled destination and is actively being unloaded by inserters or pumps, the singularity stabilizes. Decay is instantly halted, and the bonus items permanently manifest into the wagon's free space for safe extraction.

Projected Yields (1,000-Tile Traversal)

The physics department has compiled baseline metrics for a standard 1,000-tile journey. Early research tiers rely purely on kinetic displacement. However, reaching the third tier unlocks the thermodynamic multiplier, allowing the energetic density of your fuel source to directly warp spacetime. Of course considering the default values. All these values can be explored in the calculator (Libre Office Calc document)

Research Tier Fuel Type Bonus Cargo Yield
Level 1 N/A 1.50%
Level 2 N/A 3.00%
Level 3 Coal 5.07%
Level 3 Solid Fuel 5.40%
Level 3 Rocket Fuel 6.13%
Level 3 Nuclear Fuel 7.00%
Final Level Coal 7.13%
Final Level Solid 7.81%
Final Level Rocket 9.25%
Final Level Nuclear Fuel 11.00%

UPS Optimized
The factory must compute. This mod is heavily optimized to be UPS-friendly. It operates entirely on an event-driven basis tied to locomotive state changes, strictly avoiding resource-heavy polling loops.

Quality interactions
Generating enough paradox energy to duplicate legendary items requires breaking the rules of physics multiple times, resulting in diminishing returns for higher-tier gear. Duplicating uncommon materials is 50% more difficult than normal. Rare? 50% more difficult than uncommon. Epic, you got it, 50% more difficult than Rare. So forget duplicating Legendaries... unless... maybe... If you built that thing... so that... uuuhm :D

Configuration

The singularity must be earned via two parallel research tracks branching from Flux-Capacitive Routing. Once unlocked, each delivery's bonus is simply a distance reward plus a fuel reward, decaying whenever the train stalls — and every lever below is yours to tune:

  • Distance bonus ceiling (is-distance-parameter): The largest share distance alone can ever add, approached on an endless nonstop haul (default +30%). The curve saturates, so every extra tile is worth a little less than the last.
  • Distance half-bonus point (is-distance-half-bonus-point): The trip length, in tiles, at which the distance reward reaches half its ceiling (default 4000). Crank it up so only continental hauls pay off; drop it so short hops cash in fast.
  • Fuel bonus ceiling (is-fuel-parameter): The largest share fuel alone can ever add, earned by burning the densest fuel your locomotives accept (default +5%). Thinner fuels scale down logarithmically; electric and fuel-less trains add nothing.
  • Decay Half-Life (is-decay-half-life): How brutally fast the bonus evaporates while a train waits at a signal or sits in a jam — it halves every this-many ticks (default 90 ≈ a punishing 1.5 seconds).
  • Item Restrictions (is-intermediates-only): Keep the phenomenon to intermediates and fluids (default), or unleash it on every item — at the risk of making a mess of your outpost-builder and ammo trains.
  • Quality falloff: you can change that '50%' so that it is either more punishing or more a cake in the walk!
