Thanks for reporting this. I’ve now fixed the compatibility issue between The Cave and Factorissimo.
This was not really a normal bug in either mod by itself. The problem only happened when The Cave’s Underground Lighting Mode was set to Permanent Night.
Factorissimo’s Interior Lighting research works by changing the lighting settings of the internal factory surface. However, The Cave was also forcing the lighting settings on every surface repeatedly. So Factorissimo would turn the factory interior light on, but The Cave would immediately force that same interior surface back to Permanent Night again.
That is why Interior Lighting worked correctly in Normal, Daylight and Permanent Day modes, but did not work when Permanent Night was enabled.
I changed the system so that:
- Factorissimo interior surfaces are now completely excluded from The Cave’s Underground Lighting Mode.
- The Cave no longer overwrites Factorissimo’s internal daytime, brightness or frozen-time settings.
- Factorissimo now has full control over its own Interior Lighting system.
- Permanent Night still works normally outside the factory.
- The Darkness Infestation warning, 30-second timer, 12-tile lamp check and darkness enemy attacks are also disabled inside Factorissimo interiors.
- As soon as the player leaves the factory, The Cave’s normal darkness systems work again.
This compatibility work was honestly quite difficult and took me around four to five hours to investigate, test and code properly, because I had to make two completely separate mods work together without breaking either system.
Normally, this type of compatibility issue could also be reported to the Factorissimo developer, because it requires understanding how Factorissimo controls its internal surfaces. However, I decided to handle the compatibility directly inside The Cave, and it should now work correctly.
Please test the latest version with Permanent Night enabled and Interior Lighting researched. The factory interior should now light up correctly while the outside cave remains in permanent night.
This still needs more thorough testing, so if you notice any remaining bugs or anything behaving incorrectly, please let me know and I’ll investigate it.
