g Great mod and suggestions

Hello,

Really like your mod and features you've added on top of the mortar turret. I was playing with https://mods.factorio.com/mod/doeworks-deer rocket artillery which also add a medium range light artillery (and some funny explosive feature when you fire the crate ammo instead of unpackaging ammo). Your mod add more ammunitions so I think I may end up keeping it instead of DEER.

Anyway here some suggestions :

  • Make mortar and heavy mortar rotatable 45° instead if 90° it could help better cover diagonal defenses (DEER does this)

  • Again in DEER ammo is hard to transport, which is a nice challange to have to package in crate and unpackage on site before usage (a bit more logistic for your military!), currently mortar ammo stacks to 200 so it is very easy to transport.

  • Some special ammunition pale in comparison to the base mortar ammo because of explosive damage research which affect base ammo but not special ammo (exemple strategic shell that has more range becomes very weak). I understand longer range ammo should not be too powerful but it start to struggle to kill nests at high evolution between weak damage, slow rate of fire and nest regeneration.

  • could you take a look at age of production https://mods.factorio.com/mod/Age-of-Production which adds an Armoury building specialised on crafting ammo, mortar ammo could benefits a lot from it in the middle/endgame as mortar shells take some time to build.

Hi, thanks for the detailed feedback.

  • I tried to implement 8-way facing a while ago, but the collision box will also get rotated to 45 degree (tilted). I don't like the result, so I just add a 360 range startup setting instead. I may look into the issue again to think about if there is any better solution...
  • Ya I don't like the large stack size as well, but I just keep the value from the original ironclad mod. May add a setting and change that.
  • Ammo damage bonus effect was planned, but I am bit worry it may introduce too many different ammo categories. It probably should be fine, I will try to add that in the next release.
  • I took a quick look of Age of Production, should be easy to implement an optional support.
