Are space foundations expensive? Do you woe when it takes 9 space foundations just to support a measly 60 kW of power on a regular solar panel!? Do you think about how logically it would be a wee bit easier in real life ... perhaps just like the International Space Station?
Well here's your solution! This simply adds Solar Array Wings (Also known as SAWs), unlocked when you unlock all the other space related stuff for building your first space science factory! Perfect timing! (plus they look cool)
Features:
- Simply adds Solar Array Wings, a craftable entity, unlocked with the Asteroid Collector / Crusher etc, that functions as 10x Solar panels, which can be attached exclusively to the edge of your space platforms.
- Crafted from 5 low density structures, 2 processing units, and 10 solar panels.
- Requires attachment to the edge of your space platforms, and thus takes no space on the platform itself!
- Because its on the periphery of the space platform, its tricky to defend! (See known issues below)
Known issues:
So asteroids aren't actually colliding with the solar panels, which is crazy, because I can't figure out why they wouldn't (I might of also had some wine), as we're using the same collision code and masks as the asteroid collector, and that collides and gets destroyed... maybe its to do with the prototype type? But we need the 4 way visual states, so can't just use a solar panel... Anyway - if anyone knows how to solve this issue, please let me know in a discussion thread, but in the mean time, enjoy solar panels that are immortal so long as your space station hub is intact.
Furthermore, because of the prototype used, quality doesn't affect the important solar output of the array - this is ultimate fine, as you tend to use them mid-game when doing inter-planetary stuff for the 3 starter planets. And when quality properly roles around you're really into fusion etc. But still, this wont be able to be changed until we get better control of quality through updated API, as I don't want to make separate prototypes for each quality like some mods do.
Shoutout to Yet Another Planet Rendering by Omega42, (As well as Visible Planets, by Nauviax) which helped to have provided the beautiful thumbnail for this mod! (Gleba is best). Thank you!
