Simplified Coal Liquefaction

by lokomot

Replaces the vanilla coal liquefaction recipe with a practical alternative: 10 coal and 50 steam produce 100 crude oil. Intended for scenarios where crude oil is limited, but also as an option for players who find the vanilla oil production chain too complex and want to make coal liquefaction a more integral part of their gameplay

Simplified Coal Liquefaction

Simplified Coal Liquefaction replaces the default coal liquefaction recipe with a cleaner and more practical alternative, to be more useful:

  • 🔄 Input: 10 coal + 50 steam
  • 🛢️ Output: 100 crude oil

This allows you to produce crude oil directly from coal and steam without requiring heavy oil as a catalyst.
Designed for use cases where crude oil is limited but coal is plentiful, such as on resource-constrained planets in the Space Age. Or for cases where you think oils are difficult enough.

Features

  • Replaces the default coal liquefaction recipe
  • Produces raw crude oil (not fractions)
  • Simple, clean and vanilla-friendly
  • Compatible with Factorio 2.0+

Use case

Useful when:
- Oil patches are depleted or non-existent
- You have large coal stockpiles (especially via trains or mining drones)
- You want a fallback oil source for rocket fuel, plastics or science
