g Neat proof of concept from Reddit

1 year, 29 days ago

I was talking on Reddit a few days ago about Netstorm and other old sprite based flat games like Factorio and someone came up with a neat proof of concept for a layered or stacked set of game worlds. Then I saw you just posted this mod and I thought you might enjoy seeing this. Anyways thanks!

I missed that discussion, that's neat to see. This video was posted a few days later on the mod making channel of the factorio discord, you seem to have inspired someone https://youtu.be/Cq3U2GFPn8E?si=604RhSoPhUhgZcJf The parallax stuff would be awesome to have, but difficult with the current engine, I think to make it look good you'd need an internal implementation in the game engine.

The multi-surface stuff is something I've also thought of. I'd like to see an overhaul mod, on the scale of FF, around playing on two surfaces, one more or less normal and one cave surface. I've seen a few attempts but they never had more than surface level interaction between the two surfaces. Personally my list of mods to make in the immediate future is full, but I can add it to the list of mods I might make, if I find time.

I’m glad to hear they shared that concept elsewhere! Doing something based on say different biomes akin to how things change in elevation moving up a mountain could be a neat inspiration. Like those plateau cloud jungles in northern South America. Or just different tiered things in general like in Tears of the Kingdom or (I think) those Avatar movies. The big budget live action movies although I’ve heard the animated series has some pretty interesting aesthetic world choices also.
