Your bots don't like the dark.
I always want to add lights to my factory, but lights don't help the factory grow. WELL NOW THEY DO! This mod gives a mechanics-based incentive to add lights to your factory by making your robots respond to lighting conditions.
Robots now:
- Experience a speed malus (or slight buff) based on factory lighting conditions
- Experience an energy drain per-bot based on local lighting conditions.

Engine Limitations and Performance and Notes
- Design decisions were always made with the end-goal of incentivizing well-lit factories while also not sacrificing computational performance. This means some things have been abstracted.
- The Factorio engine only allows writing bot speed on a universal level (not-per-planet). :(
- Mod has been designed leniently. You don't need to worry about making your lighting perfect.
Companion Mods
currently working on two other mods that:
- Make aesthetic tile use and design provide bonuses to the factory (reward use of interesting tile patterns on the ground)
- Adds a simple lamp-like entity that also functions as a very mild beacon. (reward use of colored lights)
If you have thoughts on how this could be improved please let me know!
Statement on generative AI:
Claude was used in development of mod's code. Still getting a hang of lua. Code has been manually reviewed, tested, and changed by hand where necessary.
I have experience coding outside lua, so I've adhered to good coding principles.
