The most anoying part of building a oil extration plant is about doing the pipe stuff.

It's definitely something I'd like to have, it's just a question of how to implement it - the idea I've been working on is to make a special underground segment that'd link with aligned/opposite facing peers to activate, and maybe also place the aboveground pipe ghost to complete a corner when it's placed at a 90 degree angle from another. Would that make sense to you?

That would be like a underground pipe behave like a normal pipe. right?
