i ✅ [Feature Request] Long Inserter Range

Hello,
first of all i want to say thank you for creating this realy nice and intuative mod. its realy a plesure using 1 shortcut to ajust the entire inserter vector.
for a long time i to avoided inserter mods, since i thought it was "too op"/"not intentendet", but after playing some Larger modpacks with these features its hard to look back :). one thing that realy is against my "spirit" is how all of the Ajustable Inserter Mods make the Long Inserter basicly redundant. I played around with your mod settings and they are already realy good, to ajust to your own balance ideas, but im missing one important feature: Making Long Inserter range individual. Currently cant have the long inserter pick up one tile more than "non-long"-Inserters. The current issue is that "Long Inserters 1" gives them access to the inner tiles and non long-Inserter get + 1 Range. now they are both doing the same. "Long Inserters 2" increases the range for both by +1. both can now pickup from a 7x7 grid. If possible this new feature in conjunction with all other settings enabled would make if enabled make Long Inserters have a range of 4 and all other inserters are remain with the 7x7, so a full 9x9. if this setting is enabled but "Long Inserters 2" is not. All inserters can pick up from a 5x5 (2 Range) and Long Inserter can pick up from 7x7. Currently this can be somewhat archived by installing Smart Inserters in "incremental mode" in conjuction with your mod and fiddeling with settings. this is quite annoying because im quite sure the result is not actualy "wanted" but some kind of result of compat not 100% perfect. so i kindly ask you for a feature that allows for Long Inserters too keep there niche. thank you very much in advance.

The logic for this feature actually already exists in the mod, and you have actually already stumbled across it. When having Smart Inserters enabled, QAI takes the back seat and essentially just provides a differnet UI while using Smart Inserter's settings and technologies. But in order for QAI to do that it needed the logic that SI defines with its "Max range of each inserter" setting. So what you are seeing is intended behavior.
Though looking at it it seems like SI has added 3 more options to that setting that QAI currently does not support. Something to fix I suppose.

There is currently no way to access this functionality with just QAI installed. Though I do have a setting for it already and it's basically implemented... but I hid that setting because I was not happy with it. In my notes I have that "Extend only, without gaps" (description: Adjustable range will only extend outwards, however all tiles from the inserter base to the adjustable range will also be reachable. With vanilla and 3 range this causes long handed inserters to be able to reach over beacons and machines which is quite a big difference.) was causing 70 ms spikes with all techs researched when switching to selecting drop with modded inserters which inherently have a long range. I think I was using one from renai transportation for that test (renai is nother beast to add support for that I've not actually dealt with).

So basically I don't like the setting where the inserter just automatically gets reach for all of the inner tiles and then extends outwards. I prefer having a gap there and having it just extend. But then again it's not about what I like anymore, it's about what other people want... so I guess I could just enable that setting and let people use it however they want, even if it's laggy with incredibly long range inserters. "just don't do that"

it would be nice if you could add a "experimental" checkbox or smth. or tell me were in the code i can "enable" the hidden setting. im willing to do some testing :). i dont know if i understand correctly does 9x9 already create lag? i mean this
all is a choise of personal prefrence. if you want to enable such a feature (over beacons and assemblers) and installing a mod like this is too. but in the the end the user should be able to set that bar. i think having long inserters removed is kind of bad too. with that new setting like i said you can have opaf with 9x9 long(but slow) and 7x7 normal or 7x7 long and 5x5 normal. if default settings are representing the current state. than it would only change for people who are willing to go in the settings to finetune there gamebalance, unless is "buggy/laggy" with 9x9 right now. im not familar with renai transportation, its this throwing mod right? i would add a description that tells the user that there might be a lagg issure with insaly long ones.

9x9 does not cause noticable lag spikes no, it's like 21x21+ that does :P
Yea renai is the throwing mod.
I'll see about adding support for those new SI settings and finishing QAI's own setting soon™
