Hi! I have a few suggestions for improving the mod settings:

  1. Add a setting where the sprite model automatically rotates to match the direction the item is coming from.
  2. Enable an option where the inserter menu opens automatically upon placement, without needing to press SHIFT + F.
  3. Add a feature to choose the side of the belt from which items are picked up.

Thanks for the mod!

Hello!

  1. I'm not sure what you mean. My best guess is that you'd want the inserter arm to change/move as you're hovering over the pickup position while adjusing the inserter, which if that's correct is not possible. The inserter arm moves on its own, however when the inserter is disabled which QAI does while it is being adjusted, the arm also does not move. This is intentional and requried to prevent the inserter from either picking up the wrong items or dropping to the wrong location as you are in the middle of adjusing it.
  2. I suppose I could though that sounds rather tedious and annoying for the player. Especially when placing inserters on top of inserter ghosts. I may be able to detect that case, though if I remember correctly the api doesn't have a unique event for it so it'd be rather hacky. The fact that you can either place an inserter or press SHIFT+F to place an inserter and imediately adjust it is intentional as it gives increases the amount of things the player can do without changing existing behavior.
  3. That's an engine limitation and therefore impossible to mod. Inserters always pickup from either side of the belt.

So all in all I'm glad you enjoy the mod, so much so that you'd like to see it improved, though I unfortuantely must say that I either won't or can't implement those suggestions 😅

Thank you for the quick and detailed response!

I'll describe the first option in a bit more detail. It's more of an aesthetic improvement than a functional one. When placing an inserter, its two "legs" initially point toward where the item will be picked up. However, with the mod, we can change the item flow direction however we like, but those two legs still stay pointed in the original direction. So, aesthetically, I’d like the two legs to rotate in the direction we've set for item pickup in the mod. :) Sorry for my English!

For the second point, you're absolutely right—extra actions would indeed worsen the experience in a regular game. However, in multiplayer, my friends and I often wish we could have complete control over placing the next 4-5 inserters through the mod. Alternatively, it could be set up so that when clicking on an inserter, an additional window with its movement direction settings appears alongside the main menu. This could likely be implemented as a toggleable option in the mod settings for those who need it.

Thanks for the clarification on the third point. Overall, it's not critical; this functionality would only be needed for very specialized purposes.

Ah, so for point 1: That suggests you're placing an inserter that doesn't have power, so once you've adjusted it the hand doesn't move yet. Very technically speaking I could do something about that, by artificially giving the inserter power long enough for the arm to move to the pickup position, though it's complicated so I'd rather not, sorry!

For point 2: There's a few features in the mod already that you may not know about so I'll mention them: You can hold an inserter in your hand and press SHIFT+F and it will place that inserter and immediately adjust it. You don't need to place the inserter, clear the cursor, press SHIFT+F and then Q the inserter once you're done to go place the next inserter. This place and adjust feature does all of that in one, basically.
Additionally there's the Pipette copies Vectors (pipette is Q) per player setting which can help if you're placing multiple inserters that should all have the same pickup and drop vectors as the previous ones.
There's videos of both of those features on the mod page if you haven't seen them already.

I'm sorry, the language barrier is making it difficult for me to explain clearly what I mean.
Anyway, thank you for the responses!

Sorry from my side as well. Hope it's not too much of a bother!
