I've got some large drills that have a mining speed of 45/sec or more, yet when I compare it to the fast ovens I'm using, the drill has 0.07 upgrade attempts while the ovens have 200+ upgrade attempts. Do the upgrade attempts get affected by mining speed? It doesn't seem like it.

Hey! Sorry for my slow response. You are right, the attempts are not affected by mining speed.

It does seem better if they were though. The current handling is because there isn't a way to measure how much ore a specific drill has produced, so I've been handling them as other secondary entities that have to be estimated (like inserters). But I wasn't thinking about how they do have speed and productivity bonuses, so we could bump up the quality upgrade attempts based on that.

It seems like a nice change so I'll work on it.

FYI the updates for the mod are only landing for factorio 2.1, unfortunately I don't see a way to support both factorio 2.0 and 2.1 at the same time.

Thanks for the response, and thanks for letting me know that new updates will come to 2.1! I'll just have patience and wait for 2.1 to release on the stable branch.
