In this mod, locomotives are simple chassis that have to be outfitted with equipment. With new technologies, you will develop better equipment to make your trains faster, more powerful, and able to navigate without a driver.
Locomotives require an engine to move. The basic condenser engine works like a regular Factorio locomotive, though less powerful. Several tiers of research enable more powerful engines that run on specialized power sources.
Locomotives require a controller to move on their own—though you can always drive them manually. Equip a locomotive with a logistic controller to follow an automated schedule, or with a shuttle train controller to come to your location on command.
Modular Trains can be played with or without Space Age. When it is played with Space Age, it requires an additional mod for Space Age graphics. The first tier of train technology is acquired on Nauvis, and each planet has a new train technology. Without Space Age, all features are available on the starting planet.
Modular Trains has integrations with Mini Trains and Battery-Electric Train. It changes those mods to use train equipment. Modular Trains will probably work with other train mods, but it will not be integrated and the different train features may be unbalanced.
Known issues
Replacing equipment in a locomotive that is directly underneath an elevated rail may move it to the elevated rail.
