what i did: 1. place chest, 2. place loader, 3. rotate loader with hotkey to make it input instead of output

Ok, it seems that this was introduced in 2.0.74, so your version does not have this. This is an oversight, the 1.1.0 version should have required factorio 2.0.74. Can you upgrade?
