Either way, i have the solution for you! this mod adds recipes to turn stone into any of the 3 base ores (iron, coal, and copper) with just a little stone and steam (and makes it so you can unlock the chemical plant before you get your first oil)

By default each recipe gives a mixed set of ores (and a little stone), but you can turn that off in the settings to get just 1 output.
