Magnesium

Evaporate water in sun-powered salt ponds for magnesium, the light metal in robots, rockets and space platforms. Heated evaporators run day and night on heat pipes. Fits Space Age, Space Exploration, Krastorio 2 and BZ.

Changelog

Version: 0.3.2
Date: 2026-09-28
  Info:
    - Mod description: heated evaporators run day and night on heat pipes, not only on reactor heat.
Version: 0.3.1
Date: 2026-09-25
  Compatibility:
    - Phosphorus: heated evaporators run on combustion tower heat. Heated evaporation requires Phosphorus
      processing instead of Nuclear power.
Version: 0.3.0
Date: 2026-09-25
  Features:
    - Space Exploration: heat shielding takes magnesia in place of half its stone tablets.
    - Space Exploration: aeroframe poles take magnesium instead of an iron stick; with Krastorio 2, a
magnesium-lithium pole needs half the beryllium.
    - Space Exploration: magnesiothermic reduction of beryllium and holmium (new research).
    - Space Exploration: pond speed follows each zone's temperature and moisture.
    - Space Exploration: delivery cannon packages for magnesium, magnesia and magnesium chloride.
    - Krastorio 2: lithium brine evaporation, mineral water into bittern and lithium chloride.
  Bugfixes:
    - Space Exploration: low density structures no longer cost magnesium on top of their full copper; half of
      SE's copper becomes magnesium.
  Changes:
    - Low density structures: half the final copper becomes 2 magnesium in every pack. With Krastorio 2 alone
that keeps 5 copper instead of none.
Version: 0.2.0
Date: 2026-09-25
  Features:
    - BZ Silicon / Krastorio 2: the Pidgeon process (silicon reduces magnesia with lime, twice as fast as coal)
and magnesiothermic silicon (half again as much silicon per silica; the magnesia returns).
    - BZ Tin: Grignard organotins, a fifth more organotins; the magnesium returns as chloride.
    - BZ Foundry: magnesia lines the electric foundry and replaces stone bricks in refractory smelting.
    - BZ Gold: magnesia supports platinum and palladium catalysts where no alumina or silica does.
    - BZ Zirconium: magnesia stabilises cermet where no alumina does, if that never delays its research.
    - Chlorine providers: magnesium chloride from magnesia and hydrogen chloride.
    - Tantalite: magnesiothermic tantalum, two fifths more tantalum and niobium per ore.
    - If I Had A Nickel: nickel hydroxide precipitation with magnesia, two fifths more nickel per ore.
    - BrimStuff and Them Thar Hills: magnesia neutralises chemical waste and depleted acid into water.
    - Limestone: quicklime precipitation that keeps its calcium chloride, where the pack uses it.
    - BrassTacks: zinc-magnesium coated steel with half the zinc.
  Bugfixes:
    - Catalysed plastic, ductile pipe and Sorel concrete keep host byproducts (BrimStuff's chemical waste), so
catalysed plastic exists in those packs; the polymerisation catalyst is hidden where it cannot be used.
  Compatibility:
    - BZ Aluminum without Krastorio 2: aluminum 6061 and 2219 now use magnesium too. Alloy research may wait for
Magnesium processing when that needs no science pack the alloy research does not already use.
    - Robot frames that use aluminum 2219 no longer get magnesium on top when the alloy already carries it.
    - Optional dependencies on the integrated mods, so Magnesium reads their final recipes.
Version: 0.1.0
Date: 2026-09-24
  Features:
    - Evaporation ponds turn water into bittern; their speed follows the sun.
    - Heated evaporators run on heat-pipe heat, day and night.
    - Magnesia, magnesium, magnesium chloride and a polymerisation catalyst for extra plastic.
    - Ductile iron pipe and Sorel concrete.
    - Low density structures, flying robot frames and electric furnaces use magnesium.
    - With BZ Aluminum, aluminum 6061 and 2219 use magnesium as their alloying metal.
  Compatibility:
    - Catalysed plastic, ductile pipe and Sorel concrete are derived from the loaded mods' own recipes.
    - Host recipes are only changed where Magnesium never delays their research.
    - Magnesium processing follows chemical-plant research, so it arrives early in Krastorio 2.
    - The polymerisation catalyst unlocks with plastics.
    - Krastorio 2: mineral water evaporation (twice the bittern), magnesia from quicklime, and K2 coke instead of
coal for magnesium reduction, with graphite as an alternative. Recipes unlock with Magnesium processing and
never add prerequisites to other mods' research.
    - Chlorine (K2, BZ Chlorine): magnesium chloride electrolysis, salt pans for water and mineral water, and
the Kroll process (titanium chlorination, Kroll reduction, sponge melting) with its own research.
    - Cadmium: magnesia scrubber filters (magnesia instead of coal, a third more filters per steel); Magnesium
no longer adds itself to robot frames that already carry plated hardware.
    - Tellurium: chloride leaching with magnesium chloride needs one residue fewer per tellurium dioxide.
    - Space Age: platform foundations use magnesium and weigh 15 kg (66 per rocket); cast low density
structures use magnesium; calcite precipitates magnesia.
