In the Military research icon, there are several weapons displayed. Most of these are weapons you find in the game, but there has always been this laser-rifle-looking thing that we don't get to have. Could you change the Laser Rifle icon to be like the laser weapon in the military research icon?

that's the rail gun, which is already in the game.
enter these commands to unlock the weapon and ammo recipes:
/c game.player.force.recipes["railgun-dart"].enabled = true
/c game.player.force.recipes["railgun"].enabled = true
it's pretty underpowered in the late game though.
in 0.16 there was a mod which revived the weapon, but it hasn't been updated yet.
