b (Resolved 0.21) Missing "asteroid" filters

If you place an inserter, and enable the inserter filter, you can't set it to filter for the new "asteroid scrap" like fulgoran defense remnant.
It is possible using a crusher, then picking the item with Q, and then set the filter, but it is definitely missing something in the prototype.

One would expect it to show up in the Space category, just like any other asteroid.

Sorry, I can't see where this is missing. I can see the chunks on the inserter filter under the space tab

Its also here under the asteroid collector:

Unless if this is regarding the remnant processing in the recycler or the crusher, in which case version 0.2.0 moved the technology to be with Fulgora discovery and Recycling to make sure space platform components were all unlocked.

Yah i don't see it, it only shows the Iron, Coal and ice chunks, I only have fulgora and Vulcanus planets, no research on fulgora, the asteroid item itself shouldn't be behind any tech, since you can pick them up as you are getting on fulgora before you even unlock any research. Its fine to lock the recipe but not the actual raw item. It would be like locking raw iron ore from showing up before you smelt iron... like you can get it regardless. Or a better example, like, not being able to filter for scraps before unlocking the recycler, which isn't the case.

Edit, I think it might be a migration thing, since it doesn't show up even after the research...

Still not seeing it. Starting a new game I can even assign it to my first burner inserter before any technology or even the iron, coal, ice chunks; and my first gun turret. Can you share a screenshot with the missing filter config? And if you have any other mods registered? I only did a basic dependency check for some route rewrites but there could be some other mods interfering with research and filter.

Regarding the Fulgora unlock, that's only for the crushing and recycling recipes for the scrap. You should see the filters for the remnants in inserters and turrets right at the start of the game.

I also tried with version 0.1.0 and upgrading to 0.2.0, but I'm getting the same filterable results for the remnants and pods.

After very fun research of enabling, disabling mods and restarting a billion times, I found the guilty one, for whatever random reason the "https://mods.factorio.com/mod/cargo_crates" hides it... I posted an issue there. Ah factorio conflicts are so "fun" to track down, thanks for checking.... I was really hopping it would be just simple thing...

Thanks for that check. Turns out the issue is that the base game only lets you filter on something once you unlock a recipe that makes that item. If there is no recipe that makes the item, then there is a backup where you can just filter it from the beginning. Because I had no recipe to make the remnants, I was able to filter it from the start. Cargo crates added the unpacking recipe, meaning the filter was now gated behind that research.

I've added a 20% chance to return the scrap when crushed (much like the vanilla asteroid crushing) in 0.2.1 just released, so now you should see the filter with cargo crates unresearched.

wait what? but adding or removing the cargo crates mod actually made it show or hide in the filter.... now I'm confused.
