To anyone using this mod I would recommend switching to the "Rainbow Lasers" mod as less intrusive. While this mod looks like I wanted it to (different turrets have different static colors instead of all lasers constantly changing colors), having to use different prototypes for each color is too much for me personally to bear. Crucially, I just cannot live with different colors being separate entries in the power graph.
Remember to use the shortcut tool to revert all turrets to vanilla when you choose to get rid of this mod (where the "Copy" and other buttons are).
Colored lasers! Each turret has a different color to allow creating of nice gradients. You can have up to 360 different colors (default is 30).
The mod uses different turret entities for different colors, the color of a placed turret stays same. If you decide to delete the mod or change amount of colors, use the shortcut button first to revert all disco turrets to the vanilla state. Otherwise the game might just delete turrets that don't have existing prototype anymore.
VRAM usage should not go up when you use more turrets, as the texture files are shared between all colors. Still, that's a bunch of Lua prototypes added to a game, and I don't know the exact impact it bears on the game. During gameplay, I tried to hide it as much as I could, but it is still visible in a number of places:
- Structure damage alerts are separate for different colors.
- All colors are visible in the upgrade planner when you try to upgrade the laser turret.
- You cannot copy paste laser turret onto itself without holding Shift.
- Different colors are separate entries in the power graph.
