I discovered this by accident -- I put something on a piece of ore by accident and it exploded, and the drone replaced it -- but if you ghost down items and let the Construction Drones (https://mods.factorio.com/mod/Construction_Drones) build them they survive on the ore just fine.
this mod needs to handle the script_raised_built and script_raised_revive events, in addition to its current handling of the on_built_entity and on_robot_built_entity events.
