Better Quality (Reborn)
Better Quality and Quality Lib by sSasha, merged into one mod and updated for Factorio 2.1, with most of the reported bugs fixed.
Both original mods are deprecated. This replaces them, so you don't need (and can't run) them alongside it.
Features
Quality scaling
| Building | Uncommon | Rare | Epic | Legendary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Belts, undergrounds, splitters, loaders: speed | 1.2x | 1.4x | 1.6x | 2.0x |
| Mining drills, pumpjacks: mining speed | 1.2x | 1.4x | 1.6x | 2.0x |
| Locomotives: fuel efficiency | 1.2x | 1.4x | 1.6x | 2.0x |
- Every option can be set to constant, additive or multiplicative scaling in the startup settings.
- Works with modded belts, loaders (including AAI Loaders) and drills.
- The extra stats show in item and building tooltips and in Factoriopedia.
Storage tank size, wagon size and locomotive top speed are off by default, because Factorio 2.1 already scales them with quality. If you turn one on, it replaces the vanilla scaling instead of stacking on top of it.
Legendary tileability (on by default)
- Roboport: 64×64 logistic area and 128×128 construction area at Legendary, so roboports tile perfectly.
- Substation: 32×32 supply area and 32 wire reach at Legendary.
- Big electric pole: 64 wire reach at Legendary.
Module settings
Set the quality penalty of Speed Modules and the quality bonus of Quality Modules (in % points). The defaults match vanilla 2.1.
Optional extras (off by default)
- Optimization Module: a beacon module with a small speed and productivity bonus, at the cost of extra power and pollution. Good for throughput-limited quality upcyclers. Productivity Modules still can't go in beacons.
- Centrifuge 2: 1.25 crafting speed and 4 module slots, unlocked by Automation 3. Centrifuges can be upgraded to it with the upgrade planner.
- Bulk Recycler: recycles 4 items at once and always gives back exactly 4 items' worth of ingredients, so quality loops don't stall on bad luck.
- Alternative Recycler output: moves the recycler's output to its long side for tight beacon layouts.
How it works
Your items always stay the normal vanilla item with its quality: in your inventory, chests, belts and blueprints. Only when a quality building is placed is it swapped for its faster version, keeping its contents, modules, wires and settings.
That means:
- Recycling, item weight and rocket capacity all work like vanilla.
- Copy/paste and blueprints work, and robots and the logistic network bring the right items.
- Belt dragging works normally. Hand-placed belts switch to their faster version about a second after you place them.
- Deconstruction planner filters also catch quality buildings.
Coming from Better Quality / Quality Lib?
Remove both old mods and add this one. Back up your save first.
- Quality buildings already placed in your save are kept.
- Old "quality items" in inventories and chests are turned back into normal items automatically.
- Your old startup settings carry over.
To re-check every building at any time (for example after changing settings), run this in the console:
/c remote.call("better-quality-reborn", "cleanup")
Known limitations
- Filtered upgrade planners match exact building names. To upgrade a quality building, pick its variant from the Quality variants tab (each has a quality badge on its icon).
- Robots put straight into a roboport's robot slots don't get quality stats. The game spawns them without any event a mod can react to.
For modders
The Quality Lib API is included:
local quality_lib = require("__better-quality-reborn__.module")
quality_lib.add({
["transport-belt"] = { ["@all"] = { speed = { delta_additive = 0.2 } } },
})
You can't simply keep depending on the old quality-lib: this mod blocks it from loading alongside. Change your dependency to better-quality-reborn and update the require path to the one above. Full documentation is in the README inside the mod.
