Better Quality + Quality Lib merged into one mod and updated for Factorio 2.1. Quality makes belts and drills faster, locomotives more fuel-efficient, and roboports and poles tile at Legendary.
Small changes concerning balance, gameplay, or graphics.
Version: 3.3.0
Date: 2026-10-31
Bugfixes:
- Legendary roboports, substations and big electric poles tile perfectly again with quality mods that change quality levels, such as Mythic Quality (Reborn). With Legendary at level 10, a Legendary substation covered 42x42 instead of 32x32 and big poles reached 74 instead of 64. Rare and Epic also picked up the wrong tier's values.
Compatibility:
- Works with Mythic Quality (Reborn). Mythic gets its own variants. Mythic substations and big poles reach further than Legendary, and Mythic roboports stay tileable. Belt, drill and locomotive scaling follows Mythic Quality's quality levels.
Modding:
- New per_quality rule: {per_quality = {uncommon = a, rare = b, epic = c, legendary = d}} sets the in-game value for each named quality, whatever its level. For electric pole supply area and wire reach, Factorio's own quality bonus is subtracted automatically.
Version: 3.2.1
Date: 2026-10-25
Graphics:
- Optimization Module icons are now the vanilla module artwork recolored yellow with white lights.
Version: 3.2.0
Date: 2026-10-25
Features:
- The Optimization Module now comes in three tiers. Module 1 is the existing one. Module 2 (2x Module 1 + 5 advanced circuits + 5 processing units) has 1.5x its effects, and Module 3 (2x Module 2 + the same circuits) has 2.5x. All three unlock with the same research.
Graphics:
- New yellow Optimization Module icons with white lights, one light per tier, so they don't look like any vanilla module. Beacons show them in yellow and white.
Version: 3.1.1
Date: 2026-10-25
Features:
- Added underground belt length scaling with quality (off by default). "Constant" with a value of 1 gives +1 tile per quality level. Capped at 255.
- Added "Revert to vanilla (for uninstalling)". Turn it on and load your save once: every quality building, trains included, turns back into its vanilla building, so the mod can be removed without anything disappearing.
Bugfixes:
- Fixed quality AAI Loaders running without lubricant in AAI's Lubricated mode, and their lubricant pipe being left behind. Quality AAI Loaders now follow AAI Loaders' own "Loader mode" setting, like normal ones.
- Swapping a building now tells other mods the old one was removed, so they can clean up anything attached to it.
Version: 3.0.2
Date: 2026-10-25
Graphics:
- New mod thumbnail.
Version: 3.0.1
Date: 2026-10-25
Bugfixes:
- Fixed quality stats showing twice in item tooltips.
Version: 3.0.0
Date: 2026-10-25
Major Features:
- Merged Better Quality and Quality Lib into one mod, "Better Quality (Reborn)". The two old mods are no longer needed and are marked incompatible.
- Updated for Factorio 2.1.
- Removed Quality Lib's separate "quality items". Quality buildings now always stay the normal vanilla item (with its quality) while in inventories, chests, belts and blueprints. The faster/bigger version is only swapped in once the building is placed.
- Old quality items from existing saves are converted back to normal items automatically. Buildings already placed in old saves are kept.
Changes:
- Storage tank size, cargo/fluid wagon size and locomotive top speed scaling now default to disabled, because Factorio 2.1 does this on its own. If you turn them on, the configured value replaces the vanilla scaling instead of stacking with it.
- Speed and Quality Module settings use the Factorio 2.1 quality values (1 = 1%). The Quality Module 2 default is now 2%, which matches vanilla.
- Quality stats added by this mod are now shown in item and building tooltips and in Factoriopedia.
- Quality variants are hidden from Factoriopedia, ore "mined by" lists and "made in" lists, and are grouped under a "Quality variants" tab with a quality badge so they're easy to pick in planner filters.
- Hand-placed belts and underground belts switch to their quality version one second after placement, so belt dragging works normally.
- Swaps happen one tick after building, so other mods' build handlers see the building before it is swapped.
- Centrifuge can now be upgraded to Centrifuge 2 with the upgrade planner.
- Added a startup setting to blacklist entities from getting quality variants.
- Added the remote call remote.call("better-quality-reborn", "cleanup") to convert old items and fix all buildings on demand.
Bugfixes:
- Fixed missing recycling recipes for quality buildings.
- Fixed wrong item weight and rocket capacity for quality buildings.
- Fixed copy/paste and blueprints of quality buildings not being buildable by robots or recognised by the logistic network.
- Fixed crafted quality buildings disappearing or being placed with the wrong stats (e.g. legendary big electric poles).
- Fixed upgrade-replacing a quality building returning fewer modules than it held.
- Fixed "Unknown item name: I-electric-mining-drill" and "Unknown entity name: of-us-big-electric-pole" crashes with quality mods that use dashes or Roman numerals in quality names.
- Fixed swaps spilling or duplicating the replaced building's item.
- Fixed splitter filters and priorities not being kept when swapped.
- Fixed moving trains stopping when a carriage is swapped.
- Fixed "Could not generate item" errors for hidden or item-less entities (loader-1x1, units, Cargo Ships oil rigs). The library can now add stats to item-less entities such as units when they're named explicitly.
- Fixed multiple mining drills showing in ore "mined by" tooltips.
- Cargo Ships oil rigs and Factorissimo 3 buildings are blacklisted from quality variants.
- Fixed Centrifuge 2 failing to generate.
- Fixed the Optimization Module not being unlockable without Space Age. It now falls back to the Quality Module 3 research.
- Fixed the Optimization Module setting letting Productivity Modules go into beacons.
- Bulk Recycler: fixed its recipes not working in Factorio 2.1, never being unlocked, and the Bulk Recycler unlock being added to the Recycling research once per recipe.
- Bulk Recycler: fixed "Unknown key: recipe-name.scrap-recycling-bulk" and the missing "cannot be bulk recycled" message.
- Bulk Recycler: fixed cheap items (e.g. gears) returning nothing because fractional results were thrown away.
- Bulk Recycler: items that don't stack to 4, and random-result recipes like scrap, now stay on the normal recycler. Unstackable results are split instead of erroring.
- Bulk Recycler is now created early enough for No More Gambling and similar mods to see it.
