Modernized version of VortiK's Armor Plating. Adds armor plating equipment to increase vehicle hitpoints and improve survivability. Updated for Factorio 2.0 with Quality support.

Armor Plating Redux redefines combat in Factorio 2.0 by introducing a sacrificial Reactive Armor system. Equip high-tech reinforced plates on vehicles AND your character — they absorb incoming damage to protect the hull, providing a crucial survival layer for your toughest battles.


A dedicated defense mechanism that prioritizes armor integrity over health.

Feature Description
Damage Absorption Incoming damage is subtracted from the armor pool first.
Plate Destruction When a plate's HP reaches zero, it is permanently destroyed.
Anti-Exploit Removing a damaged plate scraps it instantly — no cheese allowed.
Weight Penalty Heavier armor increases vehicle friction (slower accel/top speed).
Damage Types Explosions crack plates faster; fire, acid & poison barely scratch.
Real-Time GUI Live feed of armor HP, plate count, weight, and tech bonuses.

WARNING: Armor plates do not regenerate. Once deployed, their HP is fixed until destruction or manual replacement.


Three tiers of increasingly powerful reactive armor plates.

Plates can be equipped on vehicles (cars, spidertrons, trains) AND player character armor.


Not all damage is equal. Armor plates react differently depending on the incoming damage type.

Damage Type Modifier Effect on Armor
Physical 1.0× Baseline — bullets, biter melee
Explosion 1.5× Plates crack under shockwaves
Fire 0.5× Heat-resistant plating
Acid 0.75× Moderate acid resistance
Electric 1.0× Neutral conductivity
Laser 0.5× Reflective surface
Poison 0.25× Metal doesn't breathe — nearly immune

The modifier affects armor degradation speed. Your vehicle/character is always shielded by the absorbed damage regardless of type.


Armor isn't free — heavier plating slows vehicles down via increased friction.

Formula: friction = base_friction × (1 + total_weight / 1000). Affects acceleration and top speed. Does not apply to player characters.


Unlock the Armor Plating Strength technology to increase the HP of your plates.

Research upgrades apply only to newly placed plates. Already-installed plates retain their current HP.
